It depends exactly how serious it was, but I think the possibilities are:

-Mark of 0 for that exam
-Disqualified for that subject
-Disqualified for all subjects with that exam board
-Disqualified for everything

:ditto: I think I read in one of the reports that there are also some longer term sanctions, but it really depends on what you do. Do you know how exactly she cheated- i.e. used notes; had a mobile on; attempted to communicate with someone etc?

Spanking and calling parents.

Sneaked in notes.. not too serious?
But the student was allowed to take a different exam this morning

Personally I'd call that an unfair advantage and quite serious....

I agree, even a girl previously who did more or less the same thing was made to re-take A2..
But then this current person is still allowed to continue with her studies. Surely all exam boards are notified?

Maybe they're just letting her carry on as normal while they conduct an inquiry? She might not find out until results day whether she's got 0 marks for that exam/been disqualified for that subject/exam board/everything/whatever. I'm sure I remember someone else on here having to wait until results day for the outcome when they were caught cheating.
tu tut whats this world coming to.....cheating in mocks fine  cheating in REAL exams unaaceptable!!

It usually results in being disqualified from all exams on that examboard.

Boy oh boy that makes me glad that, even though I didn't do great in my A-levels, at least I got the grades honestly. I do feel sorry for that girl though...I hope she can do well in the end. Interesting story relating to cheating: once at my old school, there was a teacher who sneaked a peek at the A-level music exams and then called a meeting with her students to tell them what the questions were! She was caught and fired but every student in her class, even the ones who didn't want to go to the meeting were disqualified from music and all their exams! As they were in the final year of school, they were in the process of applying to university and they were rejected from every one. They couldn't even retake the exams because the exam board's principles are: Once a cheater, always a cheater. They had to go into dead-end jobs and their lives were literally ruined. That's so unfair though, cos it was the teacher's fault.

 God, that's so unfair! What a nightmare to be branded a cheater when you didn't actually do anything! I mean, who would honestly believe it was the teacher's fault even though it was?

That's very extreme! They should've just gave them the emergency paper... Do they really have them? Ya know, if something happens to the papers just before the exam starts, the exam board sends out different ones?
I am The Man in Black. I know all the secrets of Time, Space, The Mind, The Soul and of Infinity.

To discover the consequences of cheating in an A level exam, go to the website www.JCQ.org.uk. There you should look for a document called 'Suspected Malpractice in Examinations and Assessments Policies and Procedures' which will show you tables of the punishments given out when caught.

It will take time to find as the website is not easy to navigate, but if you persevere then you will know the answer.
Cheating is taken very seriously by the exam board. The penalties might range from loss of marks to disqualification from all the exams relevant to the exam baord and may result in total ban from all qualfication, but the severity of the penalty does depend on the extent of the cheating.

Dump your notes on graphical calculators that accept text files  ...or alternatively just do it the normal way.
