Right mate i live in firth point and its crap.
Unite are just after your money and dont give a **** about anything.
Tell your friend that if she comes here she'll have to pay from July which means she'll have to find a thousand quid at the beginning of the summer
just to reserve her room when loans dont come through until september.
I didnt book a room until september and had to cough up two months rent for when i wasnt anywhere near the place.
The reception is hardly ever open and there isnt any security whatsoever.
its a shame because you get a decent sized room and ensuite bathroom
and a decent lounge and kitchen area but the place is run by a bunch of ignorant bastards. Tell your mate storthes is the place to be.
Its a trek to lectures but theres a sense of community up there which is seriously lacking here. its soooo boring even though its in a great location.
As for the Aspley halls theyve been on the front of the student newspaper there so badly run so approach with caution
I live at firth point also, we have had a bad few months with regards to no one ever on reception or around to speak to but now they have employed someone new who is full time which is better. It is right that you have to pay for your accom during the summer, it was ok with me because i stayed over the summer for work so i wasnt too bothered but i can understand how it might upset other people. I have also heard a rumour they are bumping up the utility charge to 350 next year but that was just a rumour, if so its an absoloute rip off to say they didnt have a utility charge 2 years ago!

My room is a nice size, the bathrooms are a lot nicer than storthes where i lived as a fresher! The communal area is also really nice decent size kitchen and tv area! The internet cost me about 200 quid for the year and i have to say its been good because i thought having the basic speed would make it slow but not at all its been fine.

Parking has been so annoying for our flat, 6 spaces to the whole of firth point, some of us have car parking permits and have had to pay 330 quid for the space yet cars seem to get in without a permit and park as they like, and theyre always the awful sounding cars as well! Hopefully theyre fobs are going to be deactivated so they cant drive in the gates soon! The parking man does come round and has fined various cars before now so hopefully hel be back soon!

In terms of comparing it to lil aspley, that has been really ripped apart by the student newspaper, wen i had a look round the rooms didnt seem as nice but thats me.

As above I would encourage any freshers to stay at storthes I had the best time there, but as a 2nd year and 3rd year firth point is an ok option.

I agree with you on the car parking.
That **** in the white rover with the loud exhaust gets on my nerves!
I cant believe you pay 330 for a space.
im glad i idnt bring my car
Unfortunately unite are dishonest and only after your money.
the woman at the desk is really nice but head office dont communicate properly with each other and she has to pick up the pieces.
they still say i owe a grand from july when ive paid half of it off

thanks for you comments which have been passed on as well as a copy of the UNi newspaper.

Main reason she doesnt want to live at storthes is that her bf is living over in far town and she believes storthes is too far away. a bit weird since at the moment she lives in oldham.

anyways which would be the lesser of two evils, little aspley of firth point.

Id say Firth because the student paper has absolutely panned both Aspley Halls.

Totally agree with you there, that car is a noise disturbance if nothing else and it doesnt have a permit  ! Anyways i would say firth because there has been so much bad stuff wrote about aspley in the paper! its pretty dire i mean no hot water for 5 days is not good!

i'm a fresher and goin to be stayin at little aspley.

and by the sounds of it i made a bad choice? lol. i just didn't wanna stay at storthes. (sp?) surely little aspley can't be as bad as it sounds? opal accommodation is generally really good. well in manchester it was. lol.

>.<
Little Aspley is opposites Firth Street car park.
Next door to Firth Point so it closer to Univ.
My room is facing the library. (Take me less than 5 mintues to get to the library and less that 8 mintues to my lecture.). This place can be livley too, since September my room-mate had 4 flat party- welcome, halloween, x'mas and the latest valentines not including how many time I went out for birthdays.

The rent is 74.25 a week or pay for annual in full £2993.76 with discount. With this cost you get your room from 1 September to 21 June.
Internet and washing is not included, but you can pay extra for it. Everything else is included.
Washing is £1.80 per go. Dryer for £2

Anything else would you like to know?

How much is the internet? thanks
www.ask4.com They offer 3 student packages: Gold 4Mb = £250 Silver 2Mb = £200 Bronze 1Mb = £150

For more information on the accommodation check out this site:
https://www.opalstudents.com/find-accommodation/ViewDetails.aspx?id=19&t=bookingandprices

If you live in H Block in Little Aspley Hall you can connect to The University wireless, this means you don't have to buy the internet. (How cool, but sady too late for me)
The washing cost has gone up: Washing is £2 per go. Dryer for £2.20
And I think the rent has change too.

If you need more information, just ask.

Bloody hell! At Storthes last year it was £1.60 for washing and £1 for the dryer!
Yeah the cost has gone up, but I prefer to paid higher washing cost than to live far.

Hi all, i know this thread is old but looking at accommodation at firth point or storthes hall, got a friend staying at storthes but having to commute to then commute further seems a bit pointless, opinions?
