Hi guys,

I'm starting AQA AS English Literature in September.

I'll be doing...
-Othello
-The Great Gatsby
-A street car named desire

For poems...
John Keats
-The pot of basil
-La belle dame sans merci
-La mia

Would just like to find out how people found these texts (if you've done it).

Also, any advice on how to go about studying and preparing myself.

Which study guides to invest in and what to expect?

Thanks.

I did AQA - I would just read your set texts and purchase York Notes guides.

Spark notes for Gatsby- such a good book, so complex. Streetcar's amazing, watch the film.

I'm doing Othello at the moment at A2, and I really like it! I'd recommend getting your own copy for each book, as you can annotate them then (And for Othello, try and find one that has a guide with translations to help you get started with the language, I personally have the Cambridge School Shakespeare one and then a second one that has my mum's annotations in it). Also, a York Notes for each one, specifically the A-Level one. These are so good to use and really helpful. Poetry is pretty easy to find help with, as when you google the poem you can very easily find other people's notes to merge with your own, and it's good to have some context about the poet as well.

What might also be helpful if you have been given a reading list or a theme is to do a bit of wider reading around that topic. Try and pick the ones that seem interesting to you, or you might be able to find recommendations and read some reviews.
