Ocr as biology help

I haven't started AS yet, but I'm attending at induction for sixth form this week and we got given this homework for tomorrow but the teacher hasn't explained anything, it's about Benedict's text for reducing sugars in glucose solutions, using the colorimeter we didn't use distilled water as the control, we used a blue filter of benedict's solution, why??
