at the moment firm offer is manchester

Reply 21

okay - that sounds good - have you visited the places then?? -- like on open days and such?

Reply 22

ye all of em apart from edinburgh. no point going there now. lol

wat u think of the AA. if it was between AA and manchester where would u say?

Reply 23

well i think its a mtter of opinion really

coz when my friends visited manchester they said that it wasn't equipped properly
and someone i remmeber told me that getting into AA would be real good

but what do you think?
which place did you seem more comfortable in? and what are the proz and conz of each place? weigh them out== everything, including distance

Reply 24

sounds a good advice 2 me.
must say was very dissapionted wit da edinburgh rejection. wasnt dat dissapointed with UCL's cause we all kno dat they r there at da top. but edin.? if manchester made me an offer who want ABB, edin should have , who actually want BBB. there remains a big Question there/:confused:

Reply 25

well its like this: cambridge rejected me but their grades were ABB when i last checked but bath were AAA and i got an offer and Sheffield were ABB
sooo --- all down to the universities really [quite obvious what cambridge's reasons were LOL], don't strain yourself too much on it though --

don't be too disheartened about UCL though - heard some bad stuff bout the place over here

Reply 26

really like what, my m8 goes 2 UCL.

Reply 27

just so you know its all just rumours - i can't have an opinion on the place as i didn't go there

most people just think that its "attempting" to have an architecture course - and that its soo artsy it may as well not be

but please don't think that this is my opinion - as it isn't, i choose not to have one and i have not been there/don't know what it looks like/ and haven't spoken with any people directly who go to ucl

Reply 28

no worries thx alot
btw bit random but just to comfort myself, i heard at an open day cant remember which 1 but they were sayin best architecture courses are in UK. by far. U think this is true?

Reply 29

well i wanted to go to the US and well they do have their share of good universities - like cornelle

but i think that the US are more commercial than the UK - where architecture still holds its true meaning and educates students and prepares them for all aspects of architecture whilst in the US they tend to be a bit more modernistic and dont rely heavily on past architecture of our times

but thats more of a generalisation - but i think a pretty good one if i say so myself! lool

Reply 30

i was thinkin of applyin to frank llyod school of arch. but then thout u kno far way and expensive. plus its america innit

Reply 31

well if you applied to US universities - there is the downside of having to do those SATS = which was one of many reasons that i didn't apply

Reply 32

true but if we are doin A levels, we should ease past SATs, but anyway.

thx al lot for all da help.

Reply 33

no the SATS are surprisingly waaayy different to just regular a levels - i was prepping for them but decided that balancing my a levels + the SATS were too much

no problem

Reply 34

well , not gunna bother wit america now, just focusin on liverpool and the AA.
Liverpool would be okay.

any1 applyin to liverpool ????

hmm...sheffield, newcastle or nottingham? thats my question. I've got an offer from sheffield but i've not had any letter or any notice about an open day. It has been a week or so...

What is the city like? What kinda accomodation should I go for do you think if I do go to sheffield? Self catered or Catered? And any ideas which halls are good? Also... are the studios open 24/7 or do they close at times?

What percentage any of the course is practical and theory?

i wasn't a great fan of the city, but that's just a personal choice - you'll need to go and visit and decide yourself.

i would go for self-catered - you want to have flexibility over your work hours and don't want to have to be back because they are serving dinner when you've got a model to finish. with catered there's a big risk that you end up paying for meals you never consumer. plus its frequenly awful food (i don't know specifically about sheffield, but uni catering generally).

studios are not open 24/7 in sheffiled to undergrads we were told, on account of it being a 20 storey high building, and fire risks. this was a contributing factor for me not going there. i think the courses is 75% practical, 25% lectures / theory based.

Katw - there's an architecture open day on 7th feb that I'm going to, but they'll probably have a range of dates because that's pretty short notice. I got a letter, so just keep checking your post.

I'm not making my mind up until I've seen the place, but I've heard good things about the city, especially as somewhere to go, living away from home for the first time. What I've gathered from the push guide, the times guide and the forum here though, is that there seems to be plenty of stuff for students to do around sheffield, it's got a great union and some of the student work on the sheffield architecture website seemed quite cool.

I'd go self-catered - more choice, plus cooking is fun

Reply 38

hmm -- self- catering definately! people hate the catered food!
studio wise - the first years have to leave by 7 + no weekends i believe but the second years and above have 24/7 privledges
city is great - especialy in the city side - bars + clubs + cinema + train station nearby+ restaurants + campus close by [ if you want al this - opt for the city campus]

anymore info you want -- holler away  --- here to brag about this great university!!

Thankyou for the feedback, yah I got a letter from Sheffield yesterday inviting me to an openday on 21st of Febuary. Which self catered halls are good?
