oh.. didn't realise you left the course rockettown! What happened? :frown:

I *think* P4 was individual and P3 was group :s-smilie:...I can't really remember!

So what did you design and build for P3?

Hey wackysparkle...

I just realised I needed to stop studying architecture for my own creative sanctity. It was completely destroying my love of making art for its own sake, and instead made my brain believe that everything revolved around a deadline. I felt myself starting to hate art and design, and decided to stop myself before I completely ruined it for, well, myself. I consider it a good decision. Anyway, I decided to following some of my other passions. Luckily for me I have quite a few

Are you on your year out now? Hows that going?

I really thought I'd replied :s-smilie: sorry!

What's weird is that I can understand what you mean - it's a very strenuous course and begins to push the creativity out of you rather you passionately doing it anymore.
Good luck with everything  Glad to know that things worked out for you!

I'm in my first year, just finished this semester's teaching period. So far we've been on two field trips - one was a day trip to Yorkshire Sculpture Park which was pretty good, quite a relaxed day out and a chance to fill up your sketchbook (!). The other was a four-day bender in Newcastle with the tutors and students. We visited key buildings of architectural interest and also Kildare National Forest during the day, and partied at night. With the tutors. Such a laugh.

You also do a research project over the Christmas period involving a building which you are supposed to go and visit. Ours is in Sweden (not the norm - most of the buildings are in the UK) so we're planning a trip to Europe this Christmas. Then I think we have another field trip in February for the next research project and undoubtedly a couple more after that.

Hope this helps.

Can somebody tell me anything about the ''technology-aspect'' of arch at sheffield? Is physics and maths going to be a lot more difficult than it was at A-levels?

Reply 747

in first year you do pretty much no maths or physics, and even the stuff you do do is either descriptive or plugging into simple equations. Somone else will be able to tell you about 2nd and 3rd year.

Technology is more about structural principles (with a few very basic equations) and use of materials, than maths and physics. People manage fine without having even done A-levels in maths or physics, so if you have done them then that's a bonus and will be helpful, but you certainly won't be doing anything more advanced.
