Lol, i got a letter in November and sent my portfolio off only about two or three weeks ago (whoops) with a fairly apologetic letter.

I got an offer about a week later.

Still, how stupid was I to send it so late?! The thing is I had already got a portfolio, I just had some kind of mental block about reducing it to A4 and sending it. When I did get round to it I made it all pretty with ribbon and nice layout/ title page/ contents etc.

Haha wicked cheers.

And hifives on getting the offer

hey the offers ive had for architecture are: Sheffield - ABB, Manchester-ABB, Nottingham AAA and Demontfort - 240 points. and rejections from UCL and Cardiff
my first choice would have been cardiff but i got rejectd. so was thinking of sheffield or manchester, but then again i havent been to the unis so i dont realy know what it would be like to study there- dont know bout nottingham nd Demontfort.......is demontfort realy that bad???
does anyone have any advice??????????????

My advice would be to go and visit the unis before you make a decision. Architecture courses vary so much, and so do oppinions on them.. Its best to make your decsion based on your own feelings:smile:

You're application is similar to mine. I applied to Sheffield, Nottingham and De Montfort and got the same offers from Notts and De Montfort and sending my Sheffield portfolio tomorrow.

I visited De Montfort, and although Leicester is nice and De Montort is like 12th in the Architecture standings in the Times, I just felt the Uni was too small, has limited resources for the architecture course and employers will look much more highly on the likes of Sheffield, Nottingham and Bath [my 3 top choices.]

So in answer to you're question, De Montfort is not THAT bad, but judging you on the other Uni's you applied for, i'm sure you'd be able to do much better.

you know you love sheffield

Reply 68

I liked Sheffield when I visited.

Does anyone have any idea it may take for them to get back to with a reply having sent my portfolio off to them today?

Cheers m'dears.

sheffield got back to me 1-2 weeks after i sent my portfolio, so you shouldnt be waiting too long
im thinking of going to sheffield now...hopefully..but apparently its dry???..never been there...i think i shud go to sum open day...do you know when their next open day is?

Reply 70

7th march --- -dry?? who said that? :ninja:

Reply 71

lol...err...a friend of mine  ...i guess it was just her opinion of it
ok...i just have a few questions to ask.........
do i have to book to go to the open day??
so you study at sheffield? what year are you in? is the work challenging? does everyone actualy complete the full 7 years?(cuz i know a few people that said that they were planning on doing the 7 years when they were at my stage but decided to stop after the first 4 years)!!
if i take out a loan will i have loads of debts after i finish my degree??
will it take over my life???

thank uuuuuuuuu

woooaah!! -- writing a report are we? hehe -- nah, i don't mind answering

well for this open day, i was told that the students who held an offer were invited to it -
yes, i study at sheffield - hence me being the OP :p:
1st year as of sep2006
work is challenging- but great! - you discover more
no- not many are even thinking past undergrad,
its 3 years, 4th - placement year, 5th +6th postgrad
i'm working towards finishing undergrad, then doing placement + finishing RIBA course -- then lets see bout the postgrad!
--- complete the undergrad first -- then think about future years
money-wise, i am international and pay triple fees. But, be prepared to spend a lot for materials + books -- debt depends on how much you keep a side for each term -- budgeting is a must!
lol - it will only take over you life if you want it too - but i think you should read the thread about "you know you're an architect if..." - i answered yes to most of it! --- you will have all nighters without realising it -which implies you love the course  - then other times you will have too much time on your hands! heh
any more questions? i will be happy to answer!

WS -

thanks for answering my questions --- i really appreciate it!!!
while reading through your answers..i noticed that you said.....

wackysparkle

i'm working towards finishing undergrad, then doing placement + finishing RIBA course -- then lets see bout the postgrad!

and now im confused(lol...its probably just my dumb-self) because is finishing the RIBA course different to the postgraduate...because i thought the whole idea of finishing the RIBA course was to do undergrad AND postgrad -- if i end up doing architecture i realy dont want to spend any longer than 7 years studying  ... lol...i think i should wait till the time comes

and talking about the openday, i got a letter from sheffield today inviting me to it on march 7...so ill be going to check that out

hopefully i wont be asking you any more questions..lol:wink:

thanks again:biggrin:

Reply 74

lol - yes that was my mistake! -- if you do the full 7 years you do finish your RIBA  [but i don't know if you will need to do the third part seperately, need to check up on that, when i do i will let you know] -- i was actualy referring to further study - as in specialising and such! whooopss! my mistake!

i'll be there on open day  - hope to see you there!

no problem

Reply 75

Am I the only one going to the open day on the 14th of March? Don't know much about the city, but I'm pretty sure I will like the course from what I've been reading, just trying to pick between Sheffield or Newcastle for my first choice!

Reply 76

i applied to newcastle as well last year - but decided that i didn't like them. They basically demeaned me

14th you say? - hmmm.... have to check up on that, didn't realise that there was one so close to the 7th

Reply 77

Yes, I checked, my letter says "...we would like to invite you to an open day on Wednesday, 14/03/2007." I hope so anyway.. :s-smilie:

Reply 78

no, there is one - i'm just not going to be the guide. -- depends really, maybe i will come again or not. aaahhh woorrrkkk

Reply 79

PHEW! Now I just have to work out how to get there!
