I have to say after all the open days I went to Sheffield definately had the nices studios! They are bright and have plenty of space and the views are pretty inspiring! Sooo no badmouthing of the studios :p:

Reply 163

:proud: you said it Dust!

rumour has it that diploma students stay over there coz of the amount of work they have :ninja: -- sleeping bags and all!

I've put down Sheffield as my first choice...just wondering if it is true, can you actually use two AS As to make up for one Alevel?? Because it says in this booklet that the lecturer handed out during the open day. . . does anyone else have that? Yey! I'm so excited bout going to uni! also. i've applied to Tapton hall...how far exactly from the arts tower is that?

Reply 165

tapton hall is quite some way off actually :s-smilie:
and yeah - you can do 2 ASs to count as an a level -- isnt it like that with most uniz?

Reply 166

ohh dear me...would that be a problem for me in the first year then if I do go there? :s Would it be much better to apply for the city campus?

yey! 2 ASs  I'm glad because now thats made me more hopeful about getting in. No I don't think other unis do that...just sheffield. Cause it's cool

lol - just to double check call up the uni in case i'm wrong!

city would have been ideal coz you are just about 8 minutes away [walking]
as for tapton hmm --- I would say that it is more than 15 minutes outta your way -

oh I meant to ask about accommodation, it says to list preference, so i was just wondering the chances of getting a place in your first choice? City has Opal 1 and 2 right? I heard something about them being huge and have so much room second years can stay on so I guess they have room?

Reply 169

oh you're fine - this was my case:
Sheffield was my firm and city was was my first choice and I got it!

Yeah theres opal 1 and opal 2 - second years are allowed to say on at opal 1 [and present opal and victoria first years are given priority right now to apply for second year there + prospective undergrads as well] - and opal 2 gives priority to first years - so your chances are good

Oh thats good, also 42 weeks and 50 weeks contracts? what are the extra 8 weeks for? I assume the course isn't that long.

Reply 171

lol - I applied for the 42 week one - it includes all the holidays [so that you dont have to move out or anything inbetween!] my contract finished on the 7th of july -
I reckon the 50 week one is for other courses - coz there are some that go on into july -- I think my friend [first year dentistry] found out that second year dentists have their course running till the middle of july
Also another reason could be coz some people's contracts for new accomodation may only start in august etc
ooorrr :p: another reason could be that some people want to stay on a little bit for work etc

Reply 172

ok thanks  I checked the booklet I got and it says there are 30 weeks of classes so that makes sense now. I'll stick with 42 then! thanks a lot! I think that's everything.. for now :p:

Reply 173

nooo problem!

lol -- okay then :p:

Just posting again cos Im excited, and exams have started! have you any idea how many people have accepted this year, I know last year was oversubscribed, I'm hoping this year is not so bad, I'm scared of missing a grade somewhere and not getting in!

Reply 175

lol - I actually haven't a clue really - All I saw was the open days, and there was quite a lot of people - my guess would be around 90-100 showed up - and there are always candidates who don't come for these things.
But yes, it was oversubscribed last year - and hence this year I'm sure that won't be happening again.

lol -- you will love the course - sadly it is coming to the end of first year for me now! -- it went by really quickly

Good luck for your exams and looking forward to seeing you here next year!

Reply 176

I forgot time moved at uni  I want to stay in first year when i get there!

Reply 177

yes tis weird :s-smilie: --- hehehee :p: had portfolio submission today - was very odd - coz we had to include aaaalll our work for the year - really showed how much we had progressed and how we had already gone through 8 units!

Reply 178

I love seeing that in art, when i look back at GCSE stuff and see now its nice to see improvement! 8 projects sound terrifying, 3 last year (AS Art) was bad enough, but then you don't have 3 or 4 other subjects at the same time! hope your protfolio went down well with the powers that be! (Then I can steal it for next year  :p: )

Reply 179

lol - I did Art A level, I remember it very well! --lol I couldn't believe that I had done 8 projects?! -- thankss!!! :p:

steal you shall not.. its part of the uni now :ninja:
