Embarrassing problem- girls only

Okay firstly I'm sorry if this grosses anyone out. It's starting to scare me a bit.

I'm not sure how long it's been there (I think maybe it could've been around since November or December) but I have a small purple/pink lump about the size of a pea on the skin where hair grows, next to my bikini line. I do shave and I think this could be the cause of it but I'm not entirely sure, as I've been shaving for about 2 years and nothing has happened like this before. Up until now I dismissed it and figured it was a permanent thing from shaving. I've been putting Germolene on it which seems to help overnight, but it does swell up a bit during the day. A friend has suggested it could be an ingrown hair.

Should I go to the doctor? I'm really worried because I don't like her and don't really like the idea of anyone but my boyfriend looking in that area. But at the same time its been worrying me all week so I will go if I have to.

Probably an ingrown hair which you can probably remedy with some tweezers? If you're worried though go to the doctor.

If its worrying you, go to the doc. If you don't like your usual one ask to see someone else.

To be honest I'm rubbish at the 'Health' part so I wouldn't know what it is, I'd suggest it was a skin tag, but seems a little big :s-smilie: It could be an ingrown hair I suppose. Nasty little buggers they can be.
yeah- i think it may be an ingrown hair just follow what gracie says, either that or you would unfortunately have to go to the doctor

if its an ingrown hair - can you see at least a little dark like in the bump? [usually the hair can be seen]

does it feel like a kind of spot?

if so, it's an ingrowing hair.
try squeezing it?
ahh..

does it hurt or anything? if it does then its probably q good idea to go to the doctor and know exactly what it is

I used to get benign lumps and boils on my bikini line and sometimes butt when I was about 12. Depending if it is getting bigger or not, if you can see any gross pussy stuff or a hair in it have a go at plucking it but be careful. If you're not sure go to the doctors everytime.

I had a benign lump and I poked it with tweezers and it all went wrong and I have a two inch scar on my bikini line!

i am never poking any lumps with tweezers again =|

I don't think I can see it growing. I have rubbish eyesight!

It does feel like a spot though. It doesn't hurt at all. I'd squeeze it but I don't fancy that idea!

How do I stop this from happening again?

Yeh well I got pissed off cos I knew it was a benign fluid lump (doctor said) and it didn't go away so I poked it loads and it tore and then there was still a lump (the bugger was fully embedded) and blood EVERYWHERE.

I was pretty freaked out at the time actually, ie. hysterical. Now I have a little purple scar that's barely visible due to positioning. Only one guy has commented and I lied about where it came from (blates saying the real reason wouldn't be hot). Lesson is don't poke lumps kids.

Yeah I can see how that would put a dampener on things. lol!

..is it wrong that i laughed..?

to OP, it really depends on what the lump is.
If it's an ingrown hair, then you need to exfoliate after shaving/waxing.

Nah I laugh about it now. It's well funny. I've always been bloody impatient and done whatever I thought regardless of common sense. So it makes me smile that I ****ed up and it seems a bit karmaish. Obvs didn't laugh at the time.
Probably an ingrown hair - change your razor blade? Mabe your current one's a bit blunt and isn't shaving that closely. My more fragile skin gets irritated like that.
Go to the doc's if you're worried. Even ingrown hairs can be serious if they're left for too long as they can get infected.

I went when I had an embarassing problem and it was fine! Nothing was wrong after all and I felt so much better with my mind at rest!

Edit: and if it's only on your bikini line you might not even have to take your underwear off
Whatever you do don't squeeze it! Sounds like an ingrowing hair, probably caused by shaving, which has become infected. If it doesn't go away from putting germoline on it (which is a pretty effective antiseptic) then chances are the infection has taken hold strongly enough that you won't be able to get rid of it yourself, either through your own immune response or by using topical medicine. If you cannot see a clear pore through which the pus could escape, squeezing it is just about the worst thing you could do, as it will probably burst under your skin and then the crap will just spread in your bloodstream. The best thing you can do is get a doctor to take a look. Perhaps it could be lanced or the doctor may give you a course of antibiotics. If you dont' like the doctor you normally have, ask for a different one, or go to an NHS walk-in clinic where you never have to see them again. I know it's really embarrassing, especially the first time a doctor pokes around down there, but if you've had it for months then it's really time to get it sorted out in case the infection spreads and you end up with a real problem.

Edit: And you can stop it happening again by using a different razor blade to shave your bikini line than the one you use for your underarms and legs, and when it's not in use keeping it in a little pot of disinfectant like hibiscrub, plus changing it really regularly of course; blunt razors do not mix well with intimate areas. A few drops of tea tree oil mixed with your normal moisturiser will also keep any newly shaved areas nice and clean.

Thanks
I made an appointment just now and I'm seeing my usual doctor next Friday. I read about possibly having to have it lanced or lasered off which I'm scared of, but if I have to, I'll do it.

I've stopped using the germoline cos it still tends to swell up during the day a bit anyway. I figure it's not really responding to it.

Thanks. That explains how I got it in the first place then because I don't always change the blade regularly and use it for arms and legs as well.
