Medical negligence law

I am going to take a graduate entry law degree, but am considering which areas interest me most. I assume lawyers present the case defending the doctor on trial, but how would you get into this as all the firms I have looked at are aimed at prosecuting the doctor and securing compensation...

Lots of firms do both Defendant and Claimant Med Neg, I would have thought the really big one will have a department doing each.
