I've set myself the challenge to spend less than £100 throughout the challenge, because I'm going to uni in September so I don't want to blow all of my savings before that!

Okay so this is my summer bucket list:
  1. Take part in Splatoon's Splatfest - reach at least "Charismatic" ranking (complete)
  2. Teach myself piano (I've never played before and I really want to!)
  3. Find a part-time job (or at least look for one)
  4. Keep a journal
  5. Take a photo of myself everyday
  6. Use theses photos to create a sort of time-lapse
  7. Get together with my school friends (before we all go to separate unis, jobs, etc)
  8. Create a scrap book
  9. Learn to paint photo-realistically (I love photo-realistic paintings)
  10. Master the 3 parts of Vivaldi's Concerto on violin(I love this set)
  11. Put on a show for my family where I play this set and some other tunes
  12. Learn 2 new violin pieces every week
  13. Do voluntary work and get enough hours for a Saltire Award
  14. Draw something new everyday for 30 days
  15. Find work experience at a company which I find interesting
  16. Tidy my room (it's just awful at the moment!)
  17. Throw out or give to charity things I don't need(I put this as a separate entry from tidying because my room is in such a state that I won't be able to make it tidy without chucking things out)
  18. Clean and sell my old violin
  19. Learn how to animate (I'll try and post my attempts at animation)
  20. Go on holiday! (without spending a ton of money)
  21. Do all of the things I need to do before I go to uni (photo for ID, vaccinations, etc)
  22. Learn how to make jewellery
  23. Make a Youtube channel
  24. Get into a better sleeping routine
  25. Make friends on the internet with similar interests to me

  39. Send an email to someone I respect greatly (who I don't know in person)
  40. Learn HTML (never really attempted this before!)
  41. Create a mixed media piece of art
  42. Play the violin everyday (whenever possible, anyway - I won't be able to if I'm on holiday, for example)
  43. Create a CV and send it to lots of potential employers (this is separate from finding a job because it's more about having the confidence to put myself out there as opposed to reaching the goal of having a job)
  44. Start a new art portfolio on a topic which interests me
  45. Write a short story
  46. Make a short comic-strip
  47. Write a speech

Holy hell, that's a lot of stuff!
You play violin and you want to learn piano? You're insane, but in a good way
I was actually struggling for what to do this summer (I'm going to Uni in September too) and a lot of these have given me some good ideas, so thank you so much for sharing!
Love the going for a meal with family one, my family is exactly the same.
Good luck this summer, hope you get to do everything you want

I know! That's why I pretty much split it into 2 parts - the tidying and the throwing things away!

Update Blog 1: 5th July 2015

Here is my first update blog! So far I've completed 1 of the goals on my list - getting to "Charismatic" ranking in Splatfest.

So here's the run-down of what I've been up to:

Splatfest (Splatoon contest)

Here is a photo from when made it to "Charismatic"!

Name: Splatoon 1.JPG
Views: 295
Size: 28.1 KB

In fact, I actually made it all the way to "eternal" ranking (the maximum). It was such great fun!

Ongoing

I don't think my list is anywhere finished - I'm feeling pretty optimistic I can do everything I want to!

Thinking about that, I'll have to sort my list into categories for it to be readable!

I've got a lot of ongoing things - violin practice, planning of day-trips, etc. One thing I did today was order some oil paints and brushes. I also learnt that some oil paints are poisonous! Apparently "Cadmium" pigments are poisonous (not that I would eat them or paint them on my skin anyway). I was a bit surprised, though - I kind of see painting as something you can let little kids do as well as adults (apparently kids shouldn't do oil painting).

I guess that adds an element of risk to my art! (I didn't actually buy a set of paints with any cadmium pigments, but I could pretend!)

Budget

Okay, so my budget is £100 (maximum I can spend).

Today's expenses:
  • Paints £14.95
  • Brushes £6.24
  • Bulldog clips £3.60
Money before today = £100
Money spent today = £24.79

Money left = £75.21

I'd better not spend anything tomorrow!

See you soon!

Update Blog 2: 6th July 2015

Second update! Not much happened today - I had some uni things to sort out which I couldn't really avoid!

Ongoing

Duolingo Day 1

I started my Duolingo French adventure today! I have used the site before, but I was still VERY rusty. It took me about an hour to get 30 points (my daily goal). To put that in perspective, it used to only take about 15 minutes!!!

I guess I can only get better!!!

Duolingo

Other

I'm keeping up with my journal and I've been keeping up with taking my photo. I'm also still practising my violin and doing all the stuff I have to do before uni. So all is going well

Oh yeah, some of my oil painting stuff arrived!!! I'm really excited to get started

Budget

I didn't spend anything today

Money left = £75.21

See you soon!

Update Blog 3: 7th July 2015

Update number three! I have a cold at the moment which made me kind of lazy today :nopity:. I still managed to get a few things done, though! I also watched the tennis

Ongoing

Duolingo Day 2

I feel like a did a lot better today than yesterday, but that doesn't mean I'm any good yet. Oh yeah and I spent some lingots (the "currency" you get for completing exercises on the site) on a "double or nothing" wager. Basically if I keep up my work on the site for a week, I double the lingots I "paid" into the wager. (I'm making it sound like it's real money - it's definitely not!) Anyway I felt like that would go very nicely with my 30 day challenge!

Duolingo - Day 2

Learning HTML / Codecademy 30 day streak

I stated learning HTML on Codecademy today. Didn't do very much today - I quit while I was ahead to avoid scaring myself off! Hopefully once I've got to the end of the course I'll be able to do some fancy stuff in future posts!

Other

I've started listening to Classic FM to try and learn more about music and composers. Maybe I'll find something I can play on the violin?

I also send my exam results to the University to prove that I told the truth on my UCAS. So that was fun... :yay:

I also worked on my volunteering application today. I'll send that tomorrow morning.

Budget

I bought supplies for making a canvas bag today:

Canvas material cost = £2.73
Strap material = £7.99

Money before today = £75.21
Total spent today = £10.73

Money left = £64.49

See you soon! (hopefully I'll feel better)

I also started the Norwegian course today. I know some Norwegians, so I have some people to (potentially) practise with!

Duolingo - Day 3

Learning HTML / Codecademy 30 day streak

I didn't do that much but I did some work on learning HTML. I also did some "background reading" in terms of clicking "View Source" on webpages! :pcguru:

Learning 2 new violin pieces every week

I started this today. This week I'm learning a piece called "Terribus" and another called "The Burnt Potato" how could I not choose it with that name? ;D

Other

I sent off my application for volunteering this morning! I also sent my CV to some places

I'm doing pretty well with learning the Vivaldi stuff. I've been practising the Allegro part and the presto, too. I can play most of them, but I am nowhere near mastering them. I'll just keep going with it!

Budget

No money spent today

Sending my CV to potential employers

I sent my CV to so many places today -so that's done! I don't expect very much in return (I'm not experienced in retail) but that wasn't the point of the exercise - I've been putting off sending my CV out for literally months!!! Go me!
