Advice on how to cheer a guy mate up

hey

basically at the party tonite, my guy mate got knocked back by the girl he liked. they've had this on again off again flirtation since last term, and one minute she's hot then next she's cold. so today she finally said no. he hasn't had much luck with the ladies since i've known him (3 years)

i know he's kinda upset, and one minute he wants to talk, and the next he doesn't. atm, we're not esp close, cos we're doingo different courses and really busy so don't really see each other enuf or phone each other enuf. but when he does talk to me, he tells me what's going on etc.

but i want him to know that i'l be here if he wants a chat or cheering up, but i don't want him to feel awkward, or remind him more of her and this set back. i don't wanna do some cheesy cheerleading spiel. and i'm really not sure what to do, cos i've never done this with a guy before.

any1 got any ideas of anything special i can do or say to him?

xxxx

I think "Hey, if you wanna chat or joke I'm here" is a good place to start...

I find that simple and to the point works.

Leave him to get over it. If you're there for him he'll probably pass his feelings on to you and you'll become his new focus of attention.

yeah, but i don't want him to feel by himself. he's actually my ex bf's best friend, but my ex is abroad this year. so normally he'd have him to talk to. he wouldn't like me, i think, cos nothing could ever come of it cos i'm his best mates ex.
i dunno if he's got other guy mates now that he talks to about this, but i wanna let him know that i'm there too.
thanks for ure ideas so far guys, any other suggestions apart from the blunt to the point statment? was thinking of popping round surprising him or somehtinog? (am i getting too girly for male pride?!)

Yeah one of my platonic male friends was in a similar situation to yours 5 weeks ago!! This older chick was stringing him along, ahh it mad me so mad  She was messing with his feelings, so anyway he met another girl at a party (younger sister of a guy we both don't like :s-smilie: ) but now they're going out yay!

And I suggested him to start seeing her too (as weird as that sounds lol). He's happy, he's back to his funny, cool self, I'm happy
