Studying a year abroad: Which Unis?

Hi guys,

I really want to apply for a law course that offers a year abroad- preferably in the United States. If not, France, or a french speaking country would be an option.

I've struggled to find Unis that offer a year abroad to decent universities, and as a potential A*AA candidate I don't really have much barriers.

I've seen KCL/UCL/LSE do four-year LLB/JD degrees, (which is my dream) but I know there are very (very) limited places for that, so I may have to settle for a year abroad instead.

I know the universities available vary every year, but does anybody know any Unis that do exchange programs with American or French unis?

Some Unis are very vague about what universities they exchange with. (and understandably so)

Thanks

Warwick exchanged with Bordeaux, one of the Paris Unis (the one outside Paris) and Lille 3 (I think) in my year abroad. Everyone I know who went to one of them enjoyed it.

You could apply for the London universities and try for the join J.D programme, although in all likelihood you won't get on it just due to competition. Scottish universities are 4 years and you can slot in a year abroad quite easily... However, it is Scots law in most of them so probably not what you are looking for. If you would consider it, Edinburgh has exchanges to Texas in the U.S, University of Pennsylvania (Ivy League US), and many french universities as well as exchanges to cool places like Hong Kong. The reason it has so many options (along with other scottish universities) is simply because the 4 year degree allows more flexibility for exchanges. However, obviously it is Scots law so probably not for you.
Durham is very good and offers exchange programmes - https://www.dur.ac.uk/law/undergraduate/els/partners/ although not to the US. However, Canadian universities are very good and it has some partners with great unis like Leuven in Belgium and Utrecht in Holland. Durham does exchanges to French universities too like Rouen.
Bristol, another great uni, seems to do LLBs with a year abroad. http://www.bristol.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/2016/law/llb-law-study-abroad/ and they ask for high grades that you will probably achieve. Looking here they have french partner unis for law, http://www.bristol.ac.uk/international-office/year-abroad/study/options.html .

So you have quite a few options I'm sure!

Nottingham has a whole host of countries including France and the U.S. that you can go to.
