Just get some smokers tooth paste - it's what they use in the dentist. Pearl white teeth don't look natural anyway. The tooth paste will get rid of most stains anyway. Just don't use it too much as it'll get rid of the enamel as it's an abrasive.

Hmm i could give it a try- my teeth don't have stains, i'd just like them to whiter, is that the effect the toothpaste can give?
Ask Richard Hammond.
There's one called Eucryl - you can get it from a chemist or probably Boots or some place like that. It's to remove stains (notably from smoking). It'll make your teeth whiter, but it'll look more natural and your teeth won't have the pearly white glow you'd get if you bleached/painted them. Either way, it depends how important it is to you and how badly stained your teeth are. If you notice very few actually have white teeth like you see on posters/commercials.
I've had it done properly. They basically form a kind of gumshield, and then give you a kind of peroxide gel and at night you inject a strip of gel into the front of each tooth inprint and go to sleep with the gumshield in.
Is very effective and doesn't look unnatural at all afterwards. Has certainly made me more confident.
It is expensive though.
How expensive??

I don't quite like the idea of smokers' toothpaste. Aren't there any specific chemicals in there meant to combat nicotine addiction as well or something? I reckon it might even be detrimental if a non-smoker starts to use such toothpastes!

Consult your dentist - it may be embarrassing but you'll not go anywhere unless you bite the bullet.

I wouldn't think it's going to be expensive. I think everyone should be able to afford it.

Discuss with your dentist who will examine your teeth and discuss pros and cons of different methods. It is very important to have an examination/discussion before you start using whitening products in order to avoid harming your teeth.

No, it's just designed for removing nicotine, that's all.
So surely non-smokers shouldn't be advised to use it?

If i got it done professionally- would it have to be kept being re-done?
By that i mean, when it stops being so effective does it leave your teeth looking weird/discoloured?

No, because the toothpaste just removes the nicotine stains. Nicotine stains are just another type of stain that you might get, like coffee, or wine, or other types of food, and they are broken down by the chemicals in tooth-whitening paste in the same way.

I am in the process of using the gum shield method. This means it is done gradually so you can control the degree of 'whiteness' you're happy with. It's supposed to take between 4 to 6 weeks then you need to top up about 1 day for every week it took to achieve. So if it took 5 weeks to get the result you wanted you would repeat the process for 5 days a year.
However I have lots of problems with aching in my bottom jaw so am having to use desensitizing gel first before I try again so it's dragging on for weeks.
If I hadn't paid the £500 upfront I wouldn't bother. Think carefully!

£500??
I think going with the dentist would be a better option, however i assume that would be even more expensive?
I had had mine whitened a few years ago and it has given me so much more confidence.
I used the gum shield method and it cost about £200.. cant really remember though. They made the mould of my teeth and then I just wore them at night with the whitening gel in them. I had about 5 syringes full but I didnt use them all. You can use however much you want and use them months later as a top up.
My dentist said I could buy more gel if I wanted more, as long as I had the moulds.
This will probaly sound cliched but it really has changed my life..it was such a simple procedure (I was terrified of dentists) and has given me the confidence to smile. It was worth it

Have some of that eurokryl stuff myself. (w.e the spelling is)
I wouldnt use it every day... it works by stripping off a thin layer of enamel.
Do this too often and obviously you wont have any teeth at all!
