Sweaty palms, anyone?

How many of you are suffering from or have this condition?

It's technically known as palmar hyperhydrosis by the way.

For those with the condition, how did you deal with it or how are you dealing with it now?

Is it affecting you in your daily life, and if so, how?

For those without this condition, what's your reaction when you encounter someone with sweaty palms (through a handshake, for example), and what is your opinion of them in general? Do you generally disfavour them?

Honest replies are most appreciated.
I used to have it but i appear to have grown out of it (yay)! Driclor was what i used, but i have to say i never had the condition particularly severe i must say.

My mum had hyperhidrosis quite severely but it also affected her feet and she used to have this strange electric current treatment where her hands would be placed in two trays of water with a metal sheet and a plastic mesh over the top. A current (small current) would be sent to the metal sheets via crocodile clips and wires and she would sit like that for ten minutes before swapping trays. Strange but very effective!

Yeah this often poses a problem with me, it happens when I'm nervous. I try to wipe my hands disceetly if I'm about to shake someone's hand.

I don't disfavour people with sweaty palms, because it's a biological condition that you can't help; however, I must admit that I'm more likely to think that they're nervous or of a nervous disposition - because it's a common reaction to nerves.
i used to get this all the time when i was younger. i think most people grow out of it. i still get it but mainly when im inside buildings, not when im outside. i wash my hands quite a lot as well lol. i felt really sorry for my ex bf when he held my hand because it was horrible :frown: but luckily he was really lovely about it and didnt care.
my feet sweat so much too still its disgusting. they smell really bad if i dont wear socks!

I think I only have palmar hyperhydrosis - either that or the feet sweating hasn't bothered me enough for me to consider it a problem in the first place.

Yes, that can be a HUGE problem. Anxiety, nervousness and stress augments the problem a fair bit. When I attend interviews, my palms sweat so profusely (compounded by the prospect of having to give the interviewers firm handshakes). I appear far more nervous then I actually am.

Many a time that's either not possible or not good enough though. :frown:

My palms are really sweaty.
My friends take the piss all the time. I just try and make handshakes short, laugh about it, and hope I will grow out of it.

I'm lucky enough not to suffer from this, maybe because I'm not a natural worrier/of a nervous disposition anyway, and tend to be pretty confident most of the time.
As for how I feel about shaking someone's hand which is sweaty, I can't say I honestly ever notice. I mean, I would register it but it wouldn't stick around in my head long enough to actually disfavour them because of it. It's like noticing that somebody has brown hair or blonde hair or something, just one of those traits in a person.

Hyperhidrosis has nothing to do with nerves/ lack of confidence!
I have this problem....it's a nightmare....the more my hands sweat the more I get nervous that someone will notice and it's just a cycle. I've tried everything and nothing works :frown:
I think it is linked to nerves in a way but not always. And i'm not growing out of it - its getting worse...

Have you considered Endoscopic Thoracoscopic Sympathectomy yet? Of course you should be consulting your doctor first, but you should be aware of the existence of such a minimally invasive and safe procedure to completely eliminate the condition.

Lol - thats a surgery very close/near to your spinal chord if I remember correctly... I suffered from this a few years ago, but from my armpits... It was the most embarressing thing ever, and my friends took the piss out of me. So i decided to get it sorted - I was researching the options on the internet and came across 'Odaban' (what a name!). Its bloody brillo - but I'm fine now - I think it was something to do with an imbalance of hormones or something, not 100% sure on that one.

Sorry, I don't know about sweaty palms - I used to get these before recitals at my old school, but I think that was just nerves lol... There must be some sort of powerful anti-perspirant for palmar hyperhydrosis out there - just google it, probably best bet...
