Facial Hair/Haircut for interview?

Hey all, I have a couple of interviews coming up soon (one for medicine and one for pharmacy) and I have really long hair, a beard and a moustache... I guess you could say I look like a hobo... my question is this: do I need to completely shave my face and cut my hair short for the interviews, or is a small degree of facial hair and semi-long hair acceptable?

hmmmmmm i usually shave for big occassions. shave. but dont cut your hair short. just make it look fashionable. make it look like you've put in effort keeping your hair long.

Shave your beard off, i know those things take a lot of effort to grow, but hey, sometimes sacrfices must be made. Then do what hads says, make sure you look as if you've put a bit of effort into your long hair

long hair is actually pretty cool if it's neat. i often end up spending like 10 minutes doing my hair before something big. yes, i've been called a girl.
Depends on what suits your face. But if I was you, I would shave off all my moustache, beard and have semi long hair, or just average length hair.

10 minutes? pfft thats nothing compared to a girl :p: I can spend 2 hours on mine
I wouldn't say you need to- I doubt you'll get rejected for having long hair and facial hair- but if you want to look smart, especially since one interview is for medicine where everyone apparently wears suits, it might be an idea.

LMFAO! I was going to ask this exact question, I also have an interview for Pharmacy coming up this Tuesday and I also have quite alot of facial hair. I was going to get it cut yesterday but I had to go to London, So I'll have to do it tomorrow.

Btw, RubberChicken where did you apply for Pharmacy? :s-smilie:

Heh thanks for all the advice, I hate the idea of having to shave my beard as it is the source of my intellectual powers, thus shaving it will make me sound like an incoherent boob during my interview, but maybe looking smart will win over sounding smart... at least I will get to keep most of my hair, huzza!

And to answer your question flt I applied to Portsmouth and De Montfort (the latter purely for the reason that I live in Leicester and I could therefore save money on accommodation and not abandon some of my friends , and yes I am aware that De Montfort is crap for Pharmacy)
shave it man. 1st impressions count.
Try your best to look like a tory.

Facial Hair - either clean shaven or full beard are the only 'acceptable' degrees of facial hair apparently. Seeing as it's medical type subject I would say you would be best clean shaved.

Hair - if it's tidy enough there's not reason why it has to be a certain length but I would probably say to go as short as you are comfortable with.

Well, another thing is that long hair is part of you as a person, and arguably interviews are really about finding more about your character...

Yeah! It will make you stand out alright! That is all rubbish! Businesses want clean shaven people! They don't want people walking around the office looking like Guru Nanak!

-Sorry! But I've worked in numerous office jobs and their business dress codes always state that employees must come into work looking respectable. That's just the way it is.

Sorry if this message sounds a bit in your face!
I think the interviewer would want to be on the same side and go with the average looking fellow. People who stick out scare employers.

I would say you can keep it, especially if it was for religious reasons (sikhism).
