What universities did you apply to?

And what offers did/have you got? I know this kind of have been done before bhut this thread is more for current university students.

I don't think its been done in that sense. Here is mine, I know how to pick the best:biggrin:

1. Salford (Multimedia and Internet Technology) - Got conditonal offer
2. Salford (Computer Science) - Got conditional offer on the basis I sat an maths module when I enrolled on the course.
3 Manchester Met - Multimedia Computing - Conditional Offer
4. Bolton - Internet Computing - Conditional Offer
5. Bolton - Information Technology.

I had decided that if I didn't get an offer from Salford or MMU I would resit take a couple of extra AS levels. I didn't bother with a 6th place. It would have been pointless applyig to Manchester with only 5 Cs and 4 D's at GCSE.

Durham (3 yr BSc, CCC offer - declined on the basis that they're all a bunch of sad muppets (or at least all the people encountered at my interview were))

Good to see we rejected them for the kind of reasons....

What made me laugh about Durham is it has somthing like 3% ethnic minorities. Which to me gives the impression its a middle class english rose type of university. I may be wrong though.

Durham managed to put me off by a flick through it's prospectus somehow. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's a very good institution, i can't put my finger on it but I just decided it wasn't for me.

I got an offer from Tabsville (unsurprisingly).

Some quotes from my stay at Durham:

"Do you row?" (followed by much laughter from me until I realise they're serious and reply with "You don't want to row in the Mersey" which they fail to realise is a joke)

"So have you applied to Oxford or Cambridge?"

"Daddy flies us up each term from Salisbury"

"We don't go into town much, the locals are there and they're all unemployed - it's depressing"

"You wouldn't know it was a northern town"

On top of that was the subject interveiwer who was a total d**k...the college interview was lovely though...he agreed with me about the newbury bypass protests having achieved something (the day before my interview the government announce a freeze and complete review of all new road building projects solely because of the protests).

rotfl Oh dear! Good thing you're not there then!

UEA - Computing Science with Multimedia
Sussex - Digital Systems and Multimedia
Oxford Brookes - Multimedia and Software Engineering
Kent - Computer Science w. year in industry
- Multimedia Technology & Design w. year in industry
Birmingham - Computer Interactive Systems w. year in industry

Kent, Computer Science is my firm acceptance. UEA is my insurance. When I applied I wanted to do multimedia and therefore had limited choice of good universities....I then changed to Computer Science after being impressed by the departments at both Kent and UEA...had I made this decision earlier, I would have applied for CS courses at Nottingham, Warwick, York and Edinburgh.

My offers were all conditional although Birmingham offered me a scholarship if I achieve my predicted 3 A's.

If your maths grade is good enough then Im sure they would consider you through Extra (I can only really speak for Warwick, IC and Edin but...). If your interested then you should give the depatrments a call!!!

Yeah, when I applied I was avoiding Computer Science 'cause of the geek factor and I wanted to do something a little more creative. Anyway, I changed my mind 'cause I realised it was prob better to get a good grounding in programming and computer systems first and then specialise in something like animation/digital imaging/special effects in my final year. I was also attracted by the option of 3rd year of study in California!

I was thinking about that but I'm pretty happy with Kent now...and if I changed my mind AGAIN (I have a reputation for being really indecisive) I think my Dad would cut my head off...

bristol - accounting - REJECTION - oh, how i cried

cardiff - accounting - 300 points - declined because it is so close to home (it'd be like going shopping there like i do every couple of weeks, only with a bit of learning thrown in too!). don't really know why i applied there really!

huddersfield - accounting - 200 points - declined because i knew bugger all about the place

liverpool - accounting - 300 points - declined because the place scares me! well, the sound of the place. i know i'm wrong but i just have the impression that is a dirty violent place! sorry liverpudlians!!!

portsmouth - accounting - 200 points - insurance (don't really know if there is a point in this being my insurance. if anyone knows if there is a point, tell me!!!)

portsmouth - accounting with eBusiness - 200 points - firm

i just loved the place from the prospectus. the only prospectus out of MANY i read in school that i at all liked the look of or that i felt that i could actually live there! and i have now been on 2 open days and a normal visit with my mother, and i loved it even more!

so basically i should really have only applied to portsmouth but i just wanted some back up - even though it is practically impossible for me to get the grades to half of my choices!

Did you know they had to resurface that stretch of road about 2 years after finishing building it/destroying the countyside, because large potholes were appearing in the tarmac (which was supposed to be top quality highly technologically advanced sound reducing long lasting tarmac)?

I applied to;

UEA (MChem chemistry with analytical chemistry, with a year in north America) - BCC (B in chem, 2 C's out of physics, maths and general studies)
Loughborough (MChem chemistry with forensic science) - 240 points, with a B in chem
Leeds (BSc chemistry with analytical chemistry) - BBC, B in chem
Birmingam (BSc chemistry with analytical chemistry) - CCC
Reading (BSc chemistry) - BCC, B in chem

Got offers from them all, chose UEA as 1st choice and Loughborough as insurance.

2003 Entry:

UMIST - Management - Conditional - AAB - Firm
Manchester - Maths with business - Conditional - AAB - Insurance
Bradford - Business - Conditional - 240 points, I think thats BBB - Decline

Well, I got ABC in Computing, Business Studies and Maths, respectively, don't ask me why the hell I applied to Bradford, didn't really know what I wanted to do, or what I was after in a university, I just applied for the sake of going to uni, and I wanted to stay local. However after much consideration and thinking, I decided (forced shall I say) that I wanted to do law instead, as it's a more respected subect with good employablity rates and decent money . Having just ABC weren't good enough, so I took an extra year and worked my balls off this year to achieve AAB, and working to pump that B into an A.

2004 Entry:

Sheffield University - Law - Conditional - AAB - Firm
Leicester University - Law - Unconditional - Insurance
Manchester University - Law - Conditional - AAB - Declined
Leeds University - Law - Conditional - AAA - Declined
Manchester Metropolitan - Law - Uncondtional - Declined

Whooohh, so there we have it, I'm off to be a high flying law student in September. I do regret not achieving high grades first time round, I guess I should have revised, however this year my timetable has been so light it has allowed me to achieve other things, such as my driving test, study, etc. Plus, who knows, if I had decided to proceed with management, I would have a much changed future.

If you have the determination, then anything is possible (not trying to sound cheesy or anything).

mine were a bit of a mix!

Bristol - Medicine (5 years) AAB offer. declined due to their truly shocking admin. completely putting me off + the distance between uni & accomodation & someone i immensely disliked from 6th form put them down as firm..lol.

Imperial - Medicine (6 years) ABBD offer (+scholarship consideration if i put as firm choice). insurance choice, really really tough decision. eventually decided i could always go to London for clinicals after having saved some money (accomodation alone there would have used up all my loan basically & i like those little luxuries..such as food & going out!)

Keele - Neuroscience & Psych. offer in UCAS points..can't exactly remember. though my AS grades already exceeded it they said from 18 units or something..worked out around BEE? & tagged B in Biology.

Keele - Neuroscience & International History. as above, same points, but not tagged for biology.

would have loved to do either course,,but was only really a back up, with a totally medical PS!

Oxford - Medicine (6 years) - AAA offer. tough decision..other applicants i met at the interviews majorly put me off, but the course structure & college accomodation (+the general consesus i'd be mad not to!) won me over. & i got increasingly excited as i found out more about the course/my college etc. now love the place & people.

Southampton - Medicine (5 years) - rejected without interview & told not to bother asking for feedback.
