wow conflicting reviews! do the fellows at your college, and their expertise, have much of an impact?

I don't think so. Even more so than for part I, supervisions tend to be organised by the department rather than college, and it will be someone in the department overseeing your project (if you do one).
Is there anywhere to get mark schemes for the FAB questions on CAM tools?? I'm beginning to think I might just have to go back early for next term otherwise...

Which FAB questions do you mean? If it's past exam MCQs then as far as I'm aware the answers are not available to anyone anywhere because of some strange university-wide no answers policy.

Though you can always ask your seniors... Some of them might have worked out the answers or had supervisors who worked out the answers.

Hey, at the moment I have picked 3 science A Levels (Biology, Chemistry and Maths). Is this combination okay for medicine at Cambridge? For my fourth A Level I was thinking of an arts A Level (Spanish, English Literature, History or Classical Civilisation). I have three science A Levels there, but is that enough? I have seen quite a few of the successful applicants also have Physics and/or Further Maths. I really would like a shot at Cambridge, I love the structure of the course - in particular the strong scientific basis and the divide between pre-clinical and clinical years. Thank you!

Oh, and with the arts A Levels I am considering, are any of them better? (will prepare me for medicine/respected etc...)

Yep absolutely fine - take the art alevel for the fourth one. If you want to drop one...then you can do, but it will have to be the arts one really. A lot of successful applicants do have physics, less of them have further maths, but that doesn't mean you need those subjects for a chance of an offer.

personally i would take an Arts subject along with the 3 sciences. 3 sciences shows you are competant and unafraid of science, and the art will show another ability. i hear some colleges at cambridge are science/maths mad though
Reply 448
no point taking further maths since maths and further maths only counts as one A level in their eyes, your arts subject choices all seem fine, personally Id choose spanish since it shows breadth of skill.
Where is Physics?!

I don't understand what you mean. I would rather do an arts (Spanish, Eng Lit, History or Classical Civilisation) A Level, but if I had a better chance of getting an offer I would consider doing one of Physics or FMaths.

Oh sorry, I just read the first line of your post and noticed you didn't have Physics lol My bad.

I would really recommend you took AS Biology, AS Chemistry and A Level Maths in your first year. And take up Further Maths along with A Level Biology and Chemistry in your second year IF you can manage it.

Else, just take up Physics along with your other subjects

I didn't do physics at AS, I did geography instead, but I do study further maths. However the offer is an A in maths OR further maths, so it doesn't seem to matter.
As long as you're good at the arts subject and you do well, your application should be just as strong. Check the colleges though because bean87 is right, some appear to prefer candidates with more sciences.

Edited: Also I agree with Vazzy B - you will probably have to drop the arts subject for A2. And anyway taking an art subject is useful as it will give you essay practice - good for BMAT!!

Thanks for the advice so far! By the way, what subjects did you take? And congrats with the Cambridge offer!
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I was just wondering around how many undergraduate places are taken up by med students? Does it vary year by year?
Reply 455
There're usually around 280 pre-clinical students per year (there're more statistics somewhere on the Cambridge website that gives breakdowns by college and year)...

Thank youuu! Not sure if the question was also directed at me but I take chem, bio & further maths now, I did geography AS last year and my maths A level (offer was an A in biology, an A in chemistry and an A in maths or further maths). What year are you in at the moment?

I got pooled by Christ's (got the letter yesterday) and got a phone call from Fitzwilliam giving me an offer (no interview) about 6 hours later, which was a nice surprise given that they say that they won't give offers until atleast monday... So yes, there is.
