Hey,

I'm just looking for a bit of advice really. I shall be applying to read medicine for 2010 entry and have chosen Clare College

I've searched the forums but can't seem to find any information on the emphasis Clare put on applicants' BMAT performance? I'm very anxious about the BMAT as it looks extremely difficult with the given time limits for each section!

I was pleased with my GCSEs and hopefully, fingers crossed, I am looking at getting 4 A's in my AS levels. However, the BMAT is slightly putting me off applying to Cambridge :erm:

Any advice would be really appreciated

BMAT is usually important in the selection process for medical students at Cambridge.... Just do the best you can

Nope, no Saturday lectures at all in second year now, but yes I am doing Part II Path at the moment thus the Saturday lectures!

The advantage to Saturday supervisions/lectures though is that it stops me sleeping until way past brunch - so far this year I've found that I can wake up, go to lectures, go to the gym, and still make it for brunch in college...

Argghhh scary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MoD ftw!

Apply to Clare! It's awesome. I've no idea about BMAT though (we didn't take it back in my day) - I would hazard a guess that it IS important but not as important as at some other colleges. But that's really vague and not very helpful, so I'd say the best advice I can give is to apply if you think it's somewhere you'd like to come, and then work really hard on practise papers etc.

When I visited Cambridge Clare was my favourite college, I loved it
Perfect distance away from the town and it just looked lovely!

Do you have 2 interviews- one science based and a general one?
I hope they interviewers are nice :p: I get a bit flustered when put on the spot with challenging questions but I usually come to some sort of conclusion once I think about it!

Did you enjoy your time at Clare? Is there a lot to do in terms of going out/night life aside from all the societies students at the open days/conferences seem to be very enthusiastic about. Not that that's a bad thing especially with ice cream eating societies :p:

Mine were both pretty scientific to be honest, and I think that trend has continued, but the interviewers now are a completely different set from the ones I had, so I can't comment on them (although they are nice to me, the same may not be true to interview candidates!)

Yes, I've loved being at Clare and although most people are very happy with whatever college they go to, I can definitely recommend it still! There's as much social scene as you want - all the usual student nights out, plus Clare cellars which is arguably the best student bar in Cambridge and has lots of events on.

Sounds good! :yep:

I like the fact that after 3 years you get a BA degree in case anything happens. I'm thinking of doing something that is law/economic based in the 3rd year if I get in!

Anyway, thanks for the advice!

Anyone have HR/Neuro Short Answer Paper answers?
Reply 567
Bit late, but haven't yet heard of anyone really with neuro short answer question answers. But everything you need to answer those questions is in your notes, usually in almost the same format as how the questions are phrased...

HR - probably have answers around somewhere but not completely sure of their accuracy.

No Pass/Fails up yet! Weird eh.

Ah ok - thanks for your help. Neuro wasnt really very hard this year and HR, to be honest, since nobody knows the answers and the questions are ambiguous, it was pretty pointless anyway.

Oh yeah - do you remember how much 2nd MB -> Tripos was scaled last year, in the subjects?

Not camsis, noticeboard outside Pharm dept. Path will be up in Path at about 2pm today and probably before that (1pm or so) at Senate House. Pharm should be on Senate House too.

Thanks for the info. Good luck to you

MoDA (I think) is at Senate House now as a full list, in case you're feeling nosey. It's on the board outside the railings as Senate House is closed for some mysterious reason.

hehe thanks  Yeah MoDA's on CamSIS too now. For some reason I never feel nosey about these - much more nosey about the Tripos list.

I think there's some visit or something (lots of police cars around!), I asked when it'd be reopened and they said something along the lines of maybe after 5, and maybe until 6 (was a little vague!), but that it'd be open tomorrow morning.

BOD pass list is on the door of the Path department (was there around 12.30pm when I was there)...

Prince Philip was coming to visit Clare (amongst other things, I presume) today so that might be why. Hope it goes well for all of you! I just had my last written Finals paper, which was fairly unpleasant but hopefully did enough to pass...just have the OSCE next week to worry about now.

I was thinking it might be something like that, what with all the police cars + throngs of tourists photographing Senate House.

I had my results very promptly this morning (thank you Pharmacology for not making me wait all day!), I was pleased with what I got so it's fine. Path, Pharm and Neuro are all out, so lots of medics have results now, though BBS have to wait til next week of course.

I hope you pass and the OSCE goes well. Good luck!

Oh and thanks psyche87 for letting me know that... though tbh I only want to get in to spy on people now... :ninja:
