A lot of the questions I got at my interview were A2 chemistry/biology.

Did you get in?
what subjects did you do for AS and A2?
Didn't they ask other questions?

No.
I did A2 maths, chemistry, biology and AS further maths.
They asked lots of questions not relating to A2 but 90% of my questions were science based, the only ones which weren't were along the lines of "how did you think you did in the BMAT?"

This was for Caius by the way, I expect the interviews vary between college to college.

I hope they ask me Maths questions  That would be so awesome. But on these Chem and Bio questions, were they questions specifically on your syllabus or more advanced but still centred around your syllabus? And did they really not ask many A2 based questions? I guess I'll have to revise my As stuff before I go then. If I go that is...

Hey,

You were wondering whether they'd ask you things about A2 material.

Did you have to fill in a form about the topics you've covered so far in school? I remember doing that, and that's supposed to have an impact on the sort of questions the interviewer will ask you.

They tend to ask you questions which involve a novel application of the basics you have learnt in A-Level so far, so know the core material for Chemistry especially really well.

In general, they will start on a topic that you're reasonably famliar with and then gradually take it further beyond whatever syllabus you're studying. The whole point of these interviews is that you can't prepare just by learning the a-level syllabus, though having it as a strong background will help.

It was a long time ago, but almost all my questions, apart from a few small-talky ones, were biology/biochemistry-based, all of them starting on standard A-level topics but then progressing further.

Ah I see. This makes the Cambridge interviews sound rather reasonable and normal as opposed to the horror stories I've been hearing. Just briefly there weren't questions on ethics or current health news or anything were there? Or the typical questions like why not a nurse etc. If not then it doesn't appear to be anything like the other med schools I'm applying to in terms of interviews. Thanks

Hi guys.
I'm having my interview tomorrow noon and I'm quite anxious.
To those that already sat for their interview, may I get a rough idea on what they'd ask?

Will they ask on A-level subjects? All the three sciences (Physics too..?) ?
Or they'd be more general, into asking stuff like NHS, PBL, Hippocrates, personal insight?
Or both?
May I please have some advice?

Reply 1208

they dont wait for bmat scores to come out before asking for interview?

Reply 1209

My sister's interview was science based - nothing about NHS etc - basically trying to see how you think. They were very friendly and she got a place.
Good luck

Reply 1213

Oh congrats to her.

Apart from that, may I know some examples of science questions?
Will it be AS-Syllabus based or, further, like uni-level.
Or more like a general thing. In the present..

Reply 1214

If they do science questions, they'll tend to lead you from easier questions up to harder level questions to see how you work through them and how your mind works.

Reply 1215

Those whom sat for the interview before,
any tips?

Reply 1216

Probably all the successful applicants are too rushed off their feet at the moment to help but I remember that the science was AS level and one interview had a lot of maths in it.
My sister knew she had made mistakes but the interviewer sort of led her to the correct answer. Hope that helps.

We can't give you specific questions because they don't like to have them posted on the internet. What is most likely is that they'll start off with something fairly simple (like cell biology/biochemistry) perhaps with some kind of visual aid like a photograph or slide, and then start asking more and more detailed questions to test how far you can go and how you think about these problems.

Reply 1218

thanks.
are there any chemistry-related questions?

I would very much prefer these -.-
The range of medical field questions is just too big. (Bio+Chemistry)
Even some of them stated there were out-of-A2 questions.
One of my friend said hers was more to personal statement based questions.
I hope that'd be mine too.
