Cambridge Medicine Students and Applicants

if you truly want to do medicine it should not matter where you go, if you just want the prestige of cambridge etc then maybe you're applying for the wrong subject.
besides, on your application for f1 positions, hospitals do not know where you completed your degree, so it shouldn't effect any job prospects.
also the increase in student fees next year is something to bear in mind too.
I didn't think there was even /that/ much difference in medical schools?

People would kill for an offer anywhere! But I guess if you're not happy, then don't go.

Not certain you'll get an offer next year, though.

you're thinking of turning down bristol for medicine? You do know Cambridge is not necessarily better? Even when looking for a job. A lot of people would give a lot for an offer anywhere and knowing how hard it is to get in anywhere for medicine i don't know why you'd risk not getting in when you have an offer already

I'm an international student and applied to Cambridge for medicine and got rejected after interview.
My BMAT performance was not good enough though it wasnt bad either.
I got rejected from Imperial and UCL as well but got an offer from Bristol to study medicine there.
the thing is I'm not sure what to do, whether to cancel my Bristol offer and reapply to cambridge next year or just to go to Bristol.
I'm currently doing A2.

any advise?

Medicine is incredibly competitive and if I were you I would probably go to Bristol. Medicine is the same degree wherever you go, you will still come out a doctor.
Even if you do redo the bmat and improve they take into account the fact that you've already had one attempt it. My friend who got rejected from imperial w/o interview the first time round reapplied with a higher bmat score and still got rejected after interview, so it is incredibly risky.
60 percent of people don't get any offers, personally I would just take it. Bristol is a great uni, and a lot of fun from what I've heard.
However, if you realllly want to go to cambridge give it a shot. Good luck with whatever you choose to do. x

thanks
I have always wished to study at a top uni, so getting an offer from Cambridge or atleast Imperial would be nice.
Will be bristol give me an offer if I apply next year round?

Like the others have said to apply on prestige alone would not be a clever idea, the only time you should really reapply is if you're in love with Cambridge/London itself as a place to live and be in, not the universities themselves.

It's possible Bristol will but there's no guarantee nor will you be in a better position next time vs now. In your position like I said earlier unless I really didn't like Bristol I'd take my place. Everyone else has advised you well too on this.

But if you really love Cambridge, and you fancy a year out maybe you have something in mind planned, then go for it, but only that and be aware of the risks you're taking.
I'm really stuck on how to start and layout my personal statement, if anyone could mail me their personal statement, i'd be soooo grateful!!! Because from what ive heard, different uni's like different layouts to personal statements, so if I could have a look at a successful personal statement, id be sooooooo grateful!!

I've heard that Cambridge doesn't look too fondly on medicine re-applicants, purely because they feel that Medicine is such a competitive degree course to get into at any university, let alone cambridge, and so re-applying would be wasting one year.
Also, since the degree is 5/6 years long, that's a year wasted where you could be doing medicine.

I wouldn't re-apply, purely because being a doctor is a great thing, and you should be proud of yourself for getting into a medicine course any where
Hi! I am wonderring what I need to show my college when I go to uni in Oct. Please help me current students at Cambridge.
Do I need to give them my A level certificate? or UMS certificate? Or UCAS will automatically update for them my grades? If it is a case, will I have to show my UMS or UCAS will tell them my UMS as well?
I am not sure UCAS will send them UMS marks as UCAS just send grades to other universities. Will it be a different case for Cambridge?
I thought Clare college sent an email to their offer holder in August to ask for scanned or faxed results slips which contain UMS scores.... Is it a case for everyone else?

They will contact you after A-level results day and tell you what to bring. IIRC I did not have to bring my A-level results as they get those from UCAS (so if you have an A* they will know about it and not really care about the UMS, I would have thought) but did have to bring my GCSE certificates so to be on the safe side just take all your certificates/results slips.

Nope, ignore that bit. The ISA scheme has been suspended by the current gonvernment and they are reviewing the process. This information is on their website I think

In my case, my GP said they cannot offer me the hep B jab, and when I called up occupational health they said that it isn't a problem and they would provide it for me when I come up. So I think you will be ok. Did you book the full course at your GP? I want to start it earlier and I dont mind paying, its just I dont know how to :s-smilie:
