When I applied I believe there were other people with 'AA' offers because they'd already finished Maths. This was in 2005 though, so hopefully something more recent can help.

That's comforting to hear haha. For a short while I was considering applying for Oxford instead so I emailed them and I was told that they would still require AAA with 3 other subjects in year 13 (meaning I would need an A in Further Maths to be accepted), which I thought was quite sneaky of them. I also emailed Cambridge but have no reply so far

Hello,

I've applied to Magdalene college to study medicine, and I still haven't received a response letter, telling me whether I do or don't have interview. (just paranoid really...because a lot of other people seem to already have interviews for Cambridge). I was just wondering if there's anyone on TSR, who has applied to do medicine at Magdalene, and has already received a reply.

I'm going to call up the admissions lady tomorrow to ask her whether the letter has been sent off or not

I still haven't received any reply ):
I applied for Natural Sciences though.
I'm really worried, and I am contemplating whether calling the admissions office would be too bold:frown:
Do they send invitations by e-mail, or post, or both?
Already been like two days since BMAT results came out, and still no word from Magdalene. One of my friends has an interview invitation from Jesus College for medicine, which just makes me more scared!

How did you lot all do in the BMAT?

I'm sure in the email of acknowledgement they said that they wouldn't respond until the 28th of November.

I called the admissions Lady today and she said that they were waiting for the BMAT results to come out-- it will be used to decide whether to invite people for interview or not. They'll send out invitation letters tomorrow or on Saturday, and therefore we should know by Saturday the earliest or Monday the latest whether we have an interview or not. I've done terribly on the BMAT but hopefully they look through that. I know a lot of people who have already received rejections from cambridge for both medicine and natsci, and on the other hand many have also received an invitation for an interveiw. =

Hey there

As interviews are coming up, I just wanted to start this thread to ask a few questions about what potential/successful applicants have/had done to prepare, and whether what they anticipated turned out to be realistic.

Specifically, are there any Jesus medics who can tell me a little bit about the interviews there? I anticipated the 2 interviews i.e. the general and the scientific one, but there's a third which is an "academic" one, which I've been told is all maths, done by a certain Dr. Hladky.
To prepare for that, would anyone advise anything apart from going over A level maths? I've already done the A level, so hopefully I'll be okay, but still a little worried.
Also, if anyone can provide any info to what extent BMAT scores are taken into account when assessing an application, that would be greatly welcomed.

I'm not sure to what extent discussion is allowed, but if it is allowed, can anyone give examples of questions they were asked? I understand it's not realistic to try and predict what you'll be asked; I'm not trying to do that. I just want to get a little bit of an idea of what other people were asked.
If anyone else is thinking the same thing, then visit this link for a mock medicine interview at Emmanuel college: http://www.emma.cam.ac.uk/admissions/videos/interviews/?showvideo=46

Any help would be greatly appreciated

We seem to have a dearth of medics on TSR at the moment... perhaps there are some Jesus ones but I'm not sure.

Anyway, usually the interview questions in Cambridge medicine interviews (well the science ones) are in general based on things which you would have covered at A-level but ask you to think a bit deeper, as it were. I imagine a maths-based interview will be similar. Hladky is a pharmacologist specialising in ion channels, but his questions won't necessarily be restricted to his area of interest, so yes just revise Maths in general.

There are some profiles of past candidates here: http://oxbridge-admissions.info/profiles.php that might give you some ideas about what gets asked, though there probably haven't been any new profiles for a few years.

Hello,

Can someone please clarify what will be asked on the 3 Cambridge Medicine Interviews, especially at Caius? Thanks.

I understand that this can vary. But from your experience, is the general interview basically about personal statement, work experience, current issue and ethics (to what depth do we have to know about the NHS?) and do the academic ones require knowledge outside of a-level?

Also, does anyone currently studying at Caius know what Dr Massey's specialism is?

Thanks for your help!

Patience.

Dr. Massey looks to be a geneticist from the research he's involved with, but I'm not at Caius. But that doesn't mean he would just ask genetics questions... also (just in case you were thinking of this) it would not be a good idea to say things like 'I'm interested in genetics' just because you know that's his specialism, you might shoot yourself in the foot, as it were.

As I said in response to the similar question above, usually, you should only require A-level knowledge but you should be able to apply it and think beyond your syllabus.

No general interviews at my college (Trinity) so I can't really help you there.

Hey thanks!

Haha, I wasn't planning on saying that. I'm just asking because in another interview I talked about a field which my interviewer seemingly had no passion about and that was really quite awkard. But it seems like the interviewers all corresponded to interests I mention my personal statement.

Wow! Trinity? Amazing. I'm really dreading my general interview - if they ask about personal statement etc.

Hey there, I did well on sections 1 and 2. I got 6.6 and 7.0 so quite consistent too. I'm quite new on TSR so not sure if my score would be considered good around here but I personally was really ecstatic! Expected to get 4s on both. However I messed up 3 so badly, and got 2.5A. :frown: :frown: You reckon this will ruin my application since my AS aren't really strong enough to pick me up.

Also, This is a stupid question, but can I find out when others have replied / quoted me, or should I just check up on my previous posts regularly?

Hey. your section 1 and 2 are AMAZING. Well done! Yeh I thought I messed up too, but unlike you, I ACTUALLY messed up

don't worry too much about section 3, cambridge really don't care much about section 3 at all.

To find out who has replied to you- there should be a box on the right hand side of the TSR website with the title "Who quoted me", and that box should list everyone who has quoted you in a post. If it doesn't come up then click "edit" on anyone of the boxes that appear on the right hand side, scroll down, and you should see a list of items- -----in the homepage sidebar section, "tick" the "who quoted me" option, and you should be able to see everyone that has replied to you.

Hope that helps!

Thanks dude. And congratulations on your interview.

Edit: Got my Magdalene interview invitation! Horaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy~~~!!! I'm staying over the 5th and the interviews on the 6th.

Hi,

I'm a medicine applicant to Jesus college, and my interview is coming up fast (it's on the 8th). I've heard from a friend currently at Jesus that medics were asked some maths, and also physics if they had done it, at their interview - I even heard one girl had an interview that was purely maths.

As revision for this, I've printed out the most recent C1-4 papers (already done A level maths & Physics) and I'm just going to look over notes for Physics. I figure a combination of memory and Physics should be okay for M1/M2, plus it seems very unlikely they will ask about the vast majority of them both.

Does anyone have any advice for general topics to revise? Or does anyone have any experience of this already? If so, what kind of stuff came up?

One question, for example, might involve using differential equations to model the rate of depletion of a chemical against time. Can anyone think of other, similar applications?

Many thanks - any help appreciated

hey, I applied for medicine at Christ's College, my interview is on the 5h! I have several concerns regarding my application:
1. First of all my BMAT scores are 6.6 6.7 3.5B; are these competitive scores? When I first saw them I didn't know how to feel- i was in a mixed state of utter dissapointment and odd joy; I already found 2 other people with higher scores, applying to Christ's and now I feel a little depressed; so are these good scores?:-s
2. My scientific interview is with professor Edwardson and professor Gillard; any adivce on the interview/types of questions?
3. What exactly happens during the general interview?
