Your plan could backfire/you could lose your first member if any of us don't get the grades haha, just a prewarning :P

Hey, let's try and be optimistic .

Haha sorry! I'm confident that you two will match and beat your offers, it's me I'm worried about  having said that, if I do get the grades, I'll be happy to help start the colouring society with you two, give everyone a free anatomy colouring book to go with the colouring pencils

I totally know where you're coming from! Before I got my offer I was like "hmm getting A*AA should be okay", now I've got my offer I'm like "OMG I'm never going to get A*AA"! But for now I will just carry on talking about Cambridge optimistically and hope that it becomes a reality!

I'm not sure we'll be able to stretch to colouring books, but definitely colouring pencils and sharpeners .

Thanks! Oh haha I wish! If only we lived up to the reputation ! What college are you from?

I definitely agree with the part about supervision notes, the lectures can sometimes ramble on for a little too long, and your supervisor just summarises it so nicely (as well as adding interesting new facts)!

I think next term I'm just not going make notes! They were the same as the hand outs and wasted so much time! :O

I'm from St Catharine's. This might seem an odd question, but do you really have six science supervisions a week?

I have become a bit wary about writing notes - I don't always find it productive to do so, as it can easily become an exercise in copying down the lecture handouts, as you say.

For anatomy in particular, I sit with bones and try to actively learn the material (and devise mnemonics) rather than drawing pictures. Too much of what I did in Michaelmas was not contributing to the learning process.

Also, flashcards! And in HOM, concepts! Same goes for MIMS (e.g cataplerosis and why it necessitates anaplerosis).

Yeah, and to be honest it's not even the A* that seems far out of reach, it's the whole thing, I feel like no matter how much I do I won't get the grades :frown:

But yes, being optimistic, I'll buy an anatomy colouring book anyway... Don't you worry that once you get to cambridge the workload will be too much to handle? I do :frown:

Yeah me too! I reckon I should be able to get As though because of my AS UMS .

Good they're totally worth the money, I'm staring at mine now wishing I was doing that rather than trig :/.

Yes I am worrying about that, but surely they wouldn't have given us offers if they didn't think we would cope? Plus when I get there I won't have all my volunteering commitments or my job that takes up my entire weekend :P.

LOL yeah I think so too maybe, I am fully capable of getting the grades but ill doubt it even with my UMS for AS

But trig is amazing! (I'm a top maths nerd for a medic haha) nothing beats colouring though...

True! And we can always help each other with the work if need be :P I haven't actually asked yet, which college? Trinity here!

Ohh gosh me and trig do not get on at all! Been doing trig all night :/. Hahaha I am so glad you don't think trig beats colouring .

Exactly! Everyone will be in the same position! Christ's . Oooh wow you must be insanely clever then if you got into Trinity! Well done you! Now stop doubting yourself .

It's that bad? Yeesh good luck. :/

No no definitely not, they always accept one fool on the course, just to even it out a bit (that fool being me ).

Also, I love how most colleges are in walking distance from each other - I think Christ's is about 2 minutes away so I'll be seeing ya! (exams permitting)

Oh don't be silly, they must like you! I know what you mean though, I still wonder if they've got me mixed up with someone else!

Yes it's so good - picked a nice central college! Yes exams permitting! Woo, soo excited .

The rumours are kind of true ; we have 6 supervisors but we don't see all every week so on average there are *only* about 4 supervisions per week...

How did you find your mock then? When are you getting results back?

Mock steeplechase tomorrow! (or today if you're in the other group...) So scared! :O

Slightly off topic here but after getting pooled I have just received an offer to study medicine at Girton college. Now that I have an offer I'm beginning to think if student finance and was wondering would any Cambridge medical student roughly tell me about the total price it takes to live per year, including books, social life fees..... Just an estimate

thankyou !
Accomodation varies so much but excluding that I'd say the basic student loan (the one you get if you put in no details about parents income) should cover it without you being hard up at any point. Most colleges will help with books and there's not that many that you really need, you can borrow them from a library.

What do you mean by no details? Can you get more by doing that as I'm the third kid in my family to go to uni so a larger loan would be helpful to say the least!

Unfortunately you won't get any extra money for that reason.

No. There is a basic amount of loan which everyone is entitled to, regardless of how much their parents earn. Then there is an additional amount which is income-assessed - so people with a lower parental income get more loan. If you don't fill in details of parental income, you are only entitled to the basic amount.

IIRC you have to fill in details of other children still living at your parents' home, but I can't remember if you have to put in information about other children receiving financial support at university - the latter bit never applied to me.
