conversation starters!!

well, this is weird and i feel like a little kid again but its nice.
i get the train to school in the morning and so does another boy (who doesn't go to my school). for the last month we have sat next to each other almost every day at the station and then on the train. he says hi and always smiles at me and lately when he has been late he has run down the train and sat next to me. its so cute and i do the same. i really think im starting to like him and i think he likes me. he is in my year but i have no idea what to say to him i just get all tongue-tied :s-smilie: does anyone have any good conversation starters except for hi? i feel like hes making an effort and im knocking him back at the moment :frown: i know this sounds really pathetic and ive been in relationships before but this person has just got me all shy

"So.... do you come here often?"

Nah, anything of interest to you and which you can chat about. Something in the news, on TV, at school. An event coming up, a film you've just seen, etc etc etc.

Well you could simply talk about school, such as:

"What do you have today"?

Or trade stories:

"Like there was this one time, at band camp"

That is sooooooooo sweet :p:
To quote a friend 'the wonder of train delays'..
Although waiting for a train delay to roll your eyes and make a comment about the state of trains today might be waiting a while, sods law it you'd have perfect running trains for 5 months in a row thanks to that...

You have two choices:
1) ''God, this journey gets tedious...'' / ''Thank god it's nearly half term..''
2) ''Sorry, it feel really rude to see you every day and not know who you are!? I'm ______!''

1 for the 'I'm sooo trying to start a conversation but need something to talk about... quick, just say what you see... a train! yes! a train will do!' approach
2 for the confident folk :p:

Look at that castle!

... but that only works if you're a goldfish and you want to ask another goldfish out who just happens to be in the same bowl.

Ok that was unhelpful. I'll try again...

Lines sound fake. Be spontaneous.

... again unhelpful but its all i've got right now. :frown:
Wahay!! Best of luck on applications :]]
But yeah, I have a guy that I chat to on the train to college (eugh @ half hour journeys!!) who I used to fancy a bit but then realised that he was really arrogant (and he went out with one of my friends so that kind of killed that one... not that I lieked him at this point anyway ).. so a word of warning, you might be a bit let down!
(doubt it though, since the arrogant ones talk first, assuming that you'd fancy them like mad ^_^)
Best of luck! (let us know how it goes, haha )
Do you know his name, does he know yours? If he doesn't:

Here is a potential conversation:

You: Hey, funny how we get on the same train everyday eh?
Him: yeah
You: So, what are you hoping to study at uni?
Him: ahh.[insert subject]
You: Oh I was never good at [insert subject] *giggle*, I hope to study etc.
Him:*giggle* that's interesting....
*Depending on how long the train journey is* If it's short:

You: Oh I have to get off soon, maybe I'll catch you later?
Him: Ermm yeah sure
You: By the way, before I go, do you have msn or anything like that? It would be nice to talk to you again you know....
Him: *gives msn address*

Now you add him and make the effort on asking as many questions as you want when you get to talk to him on msn.

*If it's a long journey*
Just like englishstudent said, you could try and talk about T.V, music, or even about your schools.

Good luck with it, if he likes you, it should all go well. However, don't make it too obvious, obviously. Good luck with it.

No offence Eternity, but that sounds a bit fake.

It's better than nothing. :dontknow:
yeah wtf you cant just have conversation plans like that
what if his responses are totally different? he says im not going to uni, i think education is a bit of a joke - then her disagreeing will just seem confrontational.
Since you don't know the guy's name, that's probably a good starting point. Although it can often be interesting to talk to someone for as long as possible without asking their name...

Basically, the best thing is just to talk about something that everyone can talk about, TV, sports, books, music, that sort of thing. And ensure that you have more than one, in case they don't watch much TV (although that allows a "oh - what else do you do?" question).

Once you start a conversation, and it gets going, it'll be quite hard to stop. Trust me

problem is if you talk all the time on msn and then run out of things to say you will be silent again on the train

lol yeah that did sound a bit rehearsed - i think you should just start on a broad subject: music! -- then everything kinda usualy just gets going
or just say Hi, how are you doing? --- he replies quite obviously - you never know maybe that wil get him talking? --- but really - just start on a broad subject -- don't pre-rehearse in front of a mirror and have cue cards ready!

No. 2 - best suggestion....or you could build up to it with a 1 then 2 thing - so say something about the trains/generic comment about school/weather(!) and then just go in there; say you're name first, so he pretty much has to tell you his!
Simple, easy, and then the convo will go from there.
Please don't ask about uni - too heavy for getting to know you chat - music, tv, school subjects, teachers, - keep it light. Good luck  - let us know how it goes!!
'Hey, I'm sorry if this comes off as strange, but I've been seeing you in the train every single day. When you run down the train to sit next to me I think it's so cute! But when you sit next to me I get really tongue tied and don't know what to do, maybe it's because I like you, I feel like you're making an effort but i'm really not helping at all. So I'd really like it if we could engage in a conversation'.

If its England, you can always talk about the train delays or the weather! :p:

Best way to start talking to someone is with a light-hearted comment. For example, slightly unrelated but still about making conversation, when I used to volunteer at a charity shop I used to put the customer at ease by joking about my inability to open the carrier bags.

Light hearted comments always start conversation. Maybe when he's late say something like "Oh you made it. I was beginning to get worried there"

Personally to me that says ''stalker alert...''

They meet at the train station every day. Hardly shouts stalker.
