they'll give you an eye test, map the shape of your eyes, then bring you out some contacts for you to try on...you'll have to put them in and take them out 3 times before they let you wear them to show that you can do it.

argh that sounds quite hard? do they still give you a eye test if the trail is free?

I wondered what a trail was...until I realised it actually meant trial...

yep

at the end they'll want to set up direct debit with you tho or whatever, that's if you decide you want them...you probably will, they are fantastic!

Reply 6

ooo - - cool - I wanted to know this as well as I am going to try them as well.

Yeh what everyone else said above, and they should start you off on daily lenses for say a week then to go back to them and see if your having any problems. e.g. does it fit right etc, is it irritating, e.g. when i had mine, after when it told them it didnt feel right in one eye, i found out i have an astigmatism in my right eye. They might say when first wearing them during the trial, 1st day, wear for 2hr, 2nd day, 4 hrs, 3rd day, 6hrs, 4th days 8hrs, 5th day 10hrs, and to wear them 10hrs max. Its after that you go back to see them

yeah what Aj said but mine was slightly different, I'm on monthly day&night ones, and I had to wear them for one more hour every day for 2 weeks or so before I could sleep in the.

atm im on monthly ones, they can be a pain in the ass sometimes, like infection if i dont clean, and a couple of times ive had a hole slap bang in the middle of them, i have one in my left lenses atm as it goes, im going to get my optician to order me a replacement ASAP. How do the day and night lenses work? are they any good? and how much roughly do they cost, probably more expensive for me becuase one eye has an astagmatism, one doesnt lol

They're only £15.50 a month for me(-1.75,1.75), and you wear them non stop for a month althought you're meant to take them out and clean them once a week, which I never do but I've never had any problems lol. They're brillaint aswell, most of the time I just forget they're there...at first in the mornings your eyes sting but when you get used to it you don't even feel it anymore. Would reccomend them to everyone...

I have one tomorrow at 12.00, just wondering what happens at one? What can I expect? x

Good luck, contacts are the way to go :top: I love them

Oh and don't worry if it takes you a while to get them in, you'll soon get used to it!

I haven't had a Specsavers one but I've had a Scrivens one... they're probably pretty similar!

Your contacts prescription is a separate thing to your glasses prescription (though unless your vision is screwed up by more than about 4D they will probably be the same strength) so yes you always get an eye test!

Most unpleasant bit is where they get you to take off your glasses, hold open your eye with one hand and plonk in the lens with the other. Especially if it's the first time you've ever tried contacts! It's like "ew my eyes feel funny... oh wait, I can see without glasses, WOOOO!!!" Then they set you free for 20mins or so to walk round the block or something and see what they feel like (that's the actual "trial" part) and then you have more eye-poking as they try to get the buggers out. You buy some, you spend about half hour or more sitting in a room with a (very patient) reception lady trying to learn how to put them in and take them out. Hard at first due to the natural reluctance to touch one's eye and blinking reflex. But then you get the hang of it!

Have fun anyway!

Anyone know if you can play rugby with them in? Would there be a problem if you took a knock to the eye etc?

I had to wear mine straight away for a week solid before a checkup. But maybe that's because I'd worn monthlies before, just not the day and night version...

You can play any sport with them in, except things like swimming. I would be worried about a knock to the eye regardless of whether I had contacts in or not....

ha...well, I've just got back. let me just say, my god! I made such a fool out of myself, they man they in for me and they were fine, I wandered around town for about 10 mins, came back, and he showed me how to put them in take them out myself, then asked me to try. well....it took me 20 mins! my eyes were watering everywhere, I looked so pathetic. I finally did it, and then he goes 'before we let you go you have to do it three more times' I did it in the end, and now here I am, at home with my contacts.

I have to go back next week for my checkup, but wow I love them. it's like having good eyes!

not totally true because i failed getting doctored to get my boxing licence because i couldnt see without my lenses, youre not allowed to box with lenses for obvious reasons, which just made it 10 times harder for me so a couple of times when sparring, i left daily ones in and didnt say nothing:smile:
