Haha

Despite law and criminology looking reasonable at a first glance, really its like combining pure mathematics and puppetry as they are completely different.

Well, no. They go hand in hand if you wish to go down the path of criminal law/forensics/youth offending and probation services/crime scene investigators..

Forensics/CSI are the same thing and they are scientific pursuits with nothing to do with criminology. I can't imagine how criminologists are helping with extricating semen samples off curtains after a gruesome murder. And if you're a lawyer with an interest in criminal law, I don't think a criminology background helps in the slightest. Offender management is helped by a degree in criminology, but most unis will give you flexible optional modules semi-related to your degree. So people studying LLB might be able to take a module in criminal justice, so they can say 'AHA I have a passion for preventing crime and helping those who commit crime' and have a few placements in offender management, without having their degree tarnished with the attachment LLB 'with criminology'.

I applied to Durham for Law and they insulted me by offering me criminology instead. You have to turn that **** down as quickly as you can. You don't study criminology, do you?

Don't sully your law degree with criminology. For the love of all that is holy, don't do it.

Absolutely. You got me! 😁

It's not tarnished because you decided to go for a joint honours. If the OP said she wants to become a lawyer, then obviously a straight law degree would be much more appropriate, and I know she can still specialise in criminal law afterwards but, I'm sure she'd enjoy a law and criminology degree better and you can still become a lawyer with this degree. I don't know if you're saying that a joint law degree is rubbish, or the fact that it's criminology?
I haven't decided for certain what I will study, but I do somewhat agree with you. I'd only study criminology as a minor

I want to become a DCI (detective) and go into criminology or I either want to go into law and become a solicitor. What would be the best degree to study to keep my options open? Thanks

It's the combination which weakens it in my eyes, not saying other people agree with this, but for me the combo weakens it unless you're doing English Law with German Law or something like that. As you say, Law with criminology is more enjoyable, easier to manage. You shouldn't be able to manage Law; it's dry, torture and it's supposed to be. And alongside that I don't like criminology as a subject.
I'd recommend doing an apprenticeship under Batman.
