A controversial new trend in “sugar dating” has recently gained attention again. Sold as somewhere between a business relationship and dating, the practice involves young, attractive, predominantly female “sugar babies” – many of them students – exchanging their companionship for financial support from older, wealthy predominantly male “sugar daddies” or “mommies”. Expectations and boundaries for both people are outlined upfront, and if they proceed to an ongoing relationship it becomes known as an “arrangement”. Although arrangements commonly involve sexual intimacy, this is not always the case.

Is it right that women (and men to a lesser extent) are having to sell their bodies and are being 'bought' just so they can actually survive financially at university?

Would you do it?

Women have always traded sex for resources. Used to be meat, nowadays it's money or Gucci bags. Even some animals species seem to do it. And you talk about ''survival''... Will they starve without becoming hookers? How do male students manage to ''survive'' without whoring themselves out?

Very decent point, if the men are fine then i dont see why its not working for the women, probably the way money is spent.

Nobody needs to do it, but if you like nice things then I can understand it as a quick and relatively easy way to make good money. They're not doing it 'just so they can survive financially at university' - plenty of students from poor backgrounds have the drive to make it through (it may not be easy, but it's usually doable). I have no problem with anyone who does it, they just need to be aware of any consequences and stay safe.

No, it is not 'right', nobody should be selling themselves as objects just to be able to get through university, it's hideous. However if a girl chooses to do this, it is her right to do so. Very sad situation though.

Its not right, it's not wrong either. What it is, like most matters that society concerns itself with, is none of your business.

I'm just concerned with if women would still be wanting to do this if they were comfortable financially - if they still would for extra 'luxury' cash then I guess there's no problem, but I do agree that they need to be safe.

None of these girls need to do it just to survive at university.

A more accurate poll would have been "Should woman be voulentarily selling sex in order to obtain designer handbags, flashy holidays and a new car?".

I don't see the issue here. Many people have part time jobs at university however these women have chosen an especially exotic one.

The only thing wrong here are our sexually repressed attitudes and a hint of feminism in the OP (women are being bought rather than happily spreading their legs for cash).

Personally, I'm all for legalizing prostitution.

Yes they would BUT i want to point out that there are many who have dignity and wouldn't under any circumstances, were talking about a small group who are perceived as most women.

Its messed up that anyone is in the position where they have to do this to survive or get an education
but there are many women that dont have to do this to live, but just want more money, in that case its the women to blame

It requires less of her time and probably warns more money than doing some grunt minimum wage job to get by. So i understand why some may do it.

I don't think much of men who see themselves as sugar daddies, it's creepy. Any man who has to rely on money to obtain sex has already failed at life.

Why would it be wrong?

You're also ignoring the number of men doing prostitution - either pretending it's 'sugar dating' or more honest escorting - at university. If it's different for them, why?

It sounds like the argument feminists use when trying to ban something like page 3. '' Poor girls have to do it , they have no alternative.'' So otherwise they would starve in one of the richest countries in the world? Maybe they do it because of vanity and because they like being paid tons of money for a few hours work which would take weeks to earn staking shelves at Tesco. They seem to see no difference between a 12 yo bangladeshi orphan prostituting herself in order to stay alive and a 25 yo woman posing topless in one of the richest countries in the world where young women are more educated and make more money than young men. And then they wonder why people hate feminism.

Women can do what they want, dosent change the fact that they don't need to sell themselves to survive. Their is a loan system with no upfrot payments and very reasonable repayment terms

What about women who whore themselves for extras ? Do they fail at life as well?

Well it's desperate times. Student jobs are hard to juggle alongside a degree so I can see why these women and even men would do it. It's a quick transaction for ample financial reward. It's morally and legally wrong but if that's how they survive, I won't judge them for it. Times are tough

I don't really look down on men for prostitution because I can understand not wanting to pander to a girl in a bar all night if you just want casual sex (its a bit false to think they need to pay).

I do agree with you regarding sugar daddies being a bit sad though because its more like paying for a relationship (like paying somebody to be your friend).

By "survive" I guess you mean buy expensive clothes and go to nice restaurants several times a week and have a nice car? Since men and women get the same in student loans and men need to eat and drink more than women to "survive", and women get tons of free stuff given to them anyway, I don't see how you can use this as an example of oppression.

Women use sex to get what they want, always have, always will. I expect as women's freedoms increase and sexual liberalism becomes more commonplace more and more will whore themselves out. Some of them will pretend they aren't doing this by having "sugar daddies" or whatever but they are all prostitutes basically.

lol at the people thinking there's some kind of parity with male prostitution, which is 90% used by gay men anyway. Men can't sell themselves because they don't have sexual value in the same way because of the natural imbalance between the male and female libido.
