46mph for FPN, so about 48 indicated. You'll be fine.

According to your speedo, 45mph to be on the safe side.

FPN = Fixed Penalty Notice
yes, Fixed Penalty Notice, the alternative is court summons.

Most speedos over-read by 10%. So you'd have to be indicated around 48mph on your speedo to hit true 46mph and activate the camera.

In theory that's the case, yes, I always go past cameras faster than the limit as I know they won't go off but 48 on your speedo in a 40 is pushing it really. LIke I said 45 past a 40 zone camera and you will 100% definitely be fine.
It's generally 10% of the speed limit plus 2 i thought? Eg. for 40mph it would be 44+2=46.

Yeah, the safest thing to do is go though them at the speed you are supposed to..
they work on 10% don't they?
So you would have had to be doing 44mph before it would flash you.
As people has said the speedo is not a true reflection of your speed, you shud always make sure your under that way you can be sure :biggrin:
the thing about modern speedos is that they are pushed up about 5mph off.
so say your going 70 mph then your actually doing 65ish mph.

10% + 3mph beofre the Police/cameras will bother.
Rumour is that some of the newer digital cameras such as on the matrix/lane control signs on the M25 and M42 have a 2 mph limit, are on whenever the matrix signs are active and don't use a flash so the first thing you know is when the FPN or summons arrives.
This is unconfirmed though but to be safe I stick to the indicated or below whenever there's a matrix lit or a white van with a big window/open door parked on the bridge over the motorway.

I read somewhere that it depends on the local police force/camera partnership. As someone mentioned, the most sensible thing to do is just keep to the limit going past the camera.
