York - Nightlife and Accommodation!

hey everyone! i have received an offer to study at York and i was wondering what the accomodation and the nightlife are like. please could u tell me ? thanks! xxx

The nightlife is covered in lots of recent threads - basically 3 clubs, hundreds of bars.

The accomodation varies - but you can't choose. All of it is fine - none of it really matters, you're only there for a year and it's all about who you're living with. The nicest accomodation is the furthest away from the centre of the campus so there's advantages to all the colleges.

Yup, plenty of posts on this already.

Colleges - no choice, some way better than others in terms of facilities and condition but the others tend to make up for it in spirit and character. You'll love wherever you end up as always.

Nightlife - If you want to really party hard 7 nights a week in a different club everytime where you don't know anyone except the person you came with, don't come to York. If you are more for a couple of studenty nights a week in clubs where you know all of the students out that night will be, as well as cheesy campus fancy dress events and doing the odd unusual thing like seeing a play or something (DramaSoc plug for you Melana!), York is more for you. You can always go to Leeds if you fancy raving it up a couple of times a term (and spending a fortune!)

I love the atmosphere on nights out here, I have a friend at Leeds who I know would hate it now he's used to going out there.

How much to people go to bars?

I don't like bars because you can't dance, or talk (too loud) and you have to spend loads of money on drinks (well I ususally do, but i dont in clubs).

Gah, im soconfused about which of my offers to use"!

Why can't you talk in bars? People tend to go to bars before clubs, or if they don't want a full-scale night out really...There are some brilliant ones!

there are loads of bars where you can sit down and talk if that's what you want - and they aren't that expensive, there are loads of student deals and stuff (or if you flirt with the barman and get a discount card...mel :p:)

i just live in a really small place an there are no clubs and a few bars, and they always pump the music out really loud.

Ahh well they're fine here, there's literally one for every day of the year, so there will always be ones for you.

I can't think of any bars where you can't talk? That's why I dislike clubs, definitely none of that going on in there (although we try, right Lucy!?). Dancing can also be done, there are plenty of "half clubs", places like Yates, Reflex and Flares to name a few that have a dance floor so you can dance to your heart's content before you go to the club.
