too much sleep!

I have a problem - I need too much sleep! I feel sleepy at 8 at night - and its hard for me to do work for my uni courses after about 9 pm. I also have trouble getting up early, so I feel like I waste a lot of my day, and am not as efficient as I would want to be with school work. Any tricks to go to bed later or preferably, get up earlier? How do I train my body to need less sleep? thanks!

Erm...sleep now instead of posting a message? It's almost 3am.
I'm not sure if you can. Because if you feel tired then you should sleep. Do you do alot of physical excersise during the day? Maybe you should just try and work around it by not leaving working to be done late at night. Just try to work as much as you can in the afternoon perhaps.

any sort of advice from Why is never a good advice

:p:
my cousin was just like this. he went to the doctors and it turned out that he was deficient in magnesium.
he now has to take magnesium tablets.

if it really is bad it could be a medical problem that you have - try going to your GP.
It is possible that it could be a medical problem.
I went to my GP about my sleep as I felt that I had too much and she reassured me that it was normal for my age, did some tests etc.

See your GP

I agree that you should go see your GP - they'll probably run a few blood tests etc & make sure everything is ok.

Also, what is your diet like? I know that I sometimes lack energy when I'm eating poorly etc.

I get over 8 hours a night which is good but by the end of the week I'm as ratty as anything 'coz I haven't had enough sleep!! I think there's a slight problem there- isn't 8 hours about average??

I know exactly how it is, always happens to be around exam times.
I usually find its due to a lack of exercise and a bad diet.
I'd agreee with the people who say you're deficient in something - if you're eating a bad diet eat a better one, if you're diet's fine see a GP.
yeah, they'll also check you for iron deficiency which can make you tired, so try eating oily fish, liver etc with high iron content. Make sure you eat breakfast too, but seriously, from someone who knows, you arent sleeping too much.
