I would write about the affect the war had (horrors of war etc) but i would probably also include for the wider reading something about Vera Brittain who worked in a hospital during the war... she wrote in "testament of youth" about how although she never saw the war first hand (ie was never on at the front line) the horrors that she saw in the hospital showed the affects the war was having... I might also mention "strange meeting" by Susan Hill as the 1st chapter shows Hilliard in the hospital... he had to sleep next to a man who not only was physically injured by the war but was also severely mentally disturbed! You might also want to talk about "Disabled" by Wilfred Owen...

Hope that helps... i was mainly talking about wider reading there as i don't really know the whole context the quote you gave was in... where was that quote from?

hey, yeh sorry i posted that quote on here, it's from 'all quiet on the western front' and it just basically means, that hospitals are so full up of the wounded during the war, that it shows the horror of the war, millions of casualties, etc. because the quote comes from an anti-war book, the quote means to say that the war is nothing but horror, losses of lives and many people injured/wounded, both physically and mentally. the word, 'alone' suggests this.
