Why do people always need to impress others?

Why do certain people - like myself - often feel the unconscious urge to impress others (by one's skills, charisma, physique, everything possible), instead of thinking about developing one's skills?

Are we addicted to compliments? Are we addicted to being in the center of attention?

Or is this a subconscious gut feeling of advertisement, self-promotion... of seeing everything (and especially ourselves) with rose-tinted glasses no matter what defects we have?

How can such people quit this never-ending feeling?

How can people simply... "not care" and really not care?

You remind me of one of my friends. He tries to impress everyone and it just gets annoying.

About the not caring thing, thats more of a case of living life how you want to, and not how others think you should - live for yourself (if that makes sense)

I have to say people like that really annoy me - that are always trying to act better than others. Just be yourself, mates are mates they dont hang around with you because they're impressed with your physique!

It's insecurity.

Insecurity about what, for example?

I don't know exactly what I'm so insecure about... apart from conspiracy theories.

And... I dunno... I feel as if I'm myself. Maybe even too much! LoL

It's just a kind of enjoyment that I find annoying as time passes

i dont think caring about what people think of you is an altogether bad thing. there are alot of people i dont like/dont know well enough to care what they think of me and there are others that i really like/admire and want to impress. it all depends on the circumstances. its when someone feels that they *need* to please everyone that it becomes a problem.
