help!!! want to switch from bristol to durham!!!

i desperately need your advice. i know it may be too late to count on a positive reply from ucas but i have to TRY. so in october i sent my application to ucas for law. i have got 3 offers by now an one rejection. haven't heard back from bristol yet and i changed my mind. don't want to apply for law there, i want to apply to durham instead!!!!

what should i do? is there still some tiny hope to make it so??

Sorry to say, but I don't think you have much of a chance.

a) UCAS doesn't let you change course selections once 14 days have passed unless you have a really good reason.

b) I'm not sure, but I would think Durham would be unlikely to consider you, now that it's past the UK deadline. They have a lot of very qualified applicants already and I don't think they're looking to add more to an already huge list.

buuuuu ;(

that's sad. i know that the competition is immense, especially for law which is oversubscribed almost everywhere

i just regret i added my 6th choice so quickly. i should have thought it over a little bit more. ;(

Bristol is freaking awesome, I went to an open day yesterday. I wouldn't be too down about it. :p:

I know it is, but Durham has a collegiate system  Besides, I have this strange feeling of an incoming rejection. Apparently from Bristol...

U cam always re-apply or alternativly if your really desperate attempt to get into Durham through UCAS extra. This is dangerous you have to reject all ur offers and apply for one course at a uni one at a time. Not all unis will be in UCAS extra and not all courses so its worth checking fist. Durham are soooooooo unorganised Im not sure they'll even know what UCAS extra is. Make sure you visit b4 applying (especailly bristol)

Durham won't be in Extra, they weren't last year. Even if they have a couple of courses in it (doubtful), none will be Law. If you have less than 6 A*s you would probably be rejected from Durham anyway, they're odd about GCSEs.

woah! how cool - sheffield !!! my friend is doing Exactly the same course as the one you have applied to!!! ---- best uni right now for that course! and i ain't being biased--- its true!!!:biggrin::biggrin:

Hey kattrin...you could send off your application to Durham independently explainning how you regret not putting Durham and have fallen in love with the uni collegiate system good course etc. (Best if your referee explained the situation in writing as it would look more official)

TYhye have no obligation to consider you but everyone loves a tryer

Yeah I would go with the above. Send them a personal letter or even try calling them.

Reply 12

Yeah the above advice is the best

Afterall, like clinton once said, ' If you don't ask, you don't get'

Reply 13

You don't need to withdraw your application to Bristol if you don't want to, though it would be nice for the other applicants there, in case you get an offer (when you're not going to take it). On Track, click on your Bristol application (the course code) and click 'withdraw choice' or whatever it is.

Oh and btw... Sheffield is not the best place for Law... it's best to take advice from people at one of your chosen universities with a pinch of salt. :p:

She doesn't seem to want to go to Bristol though.
But yeah, if you still want to apply to Bristol should Durham not be an option, don't withdraw the application to it.

Don't do ANYTHING on Track unless you have confirmation from Durham that they'd be willing to consider your application.

At this stage the only way you could apply to Durham offically (even with Durham's agreement) would be through Extra (so you would have to decline any offers you receive and apply through Extra to Durham).

that would be an extremely risky thing to do
not sure whether my attitude is durham or nothing

Contact Durham first. If they say you can't, then personally, I'd just leave it. You could write a letter as suggested above, but they'd probably tell you to just apply next year (probable politest response), as a) Law is stupidly competitive there and b) it's late in the day and c) Durham don't seem to give the impression of being overly supportive and/or understanding of their applicants.

You won't know unless you try I suppose. I still think they'd be terse with you, but go for it.
