mods dont have the balls to use their permanent IP ban on the spammers... sigh. They actually have LOADS of tools on TSR to stop spammers from coming back but they don't use them because who knows why.

If we had some magic fix for spammers, we definitely would have used it

I think TSR cares more about active user numbers! :sadnod:

The mods are pretty useless. They let the trolls get away with everything unless the thread title itself is offensive. There was an idiot yesterday who pwas posting offensive replies of several threads, pretty much all in caps locks. He even laughed at someone's grandmother being dead. This guy was reported several times but did the mods actually do anything? No. The guy even laughed at the fact he hadn't been reported. Useless sack of spuds.

    Hey Moonstruck,

The TSR Support Team no longer go through the report queue and this will have been down to CT to look at. This is, unless, somebody comes across the thread in the mean time.

It's not that the support team are useless, it's that it's not their role to deal with that unless they happen to come across it.

    Cheers

Worth noting that 'mods' don't exist any more. The majority of moderation power was removed which is why they're now called "TSR Support Team". See http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/show...7#post56255627 - many words to say "mods won't deal with reports or ban people any more".

It's completely done by TSR employees now. There are a few less employees than there were volunteers so speed suffers.

That's quite a pulled punch. "there is no way for them to access the reports queue any more because TSR handles it with paid employees now" is much more informative than "it's not their role to deal with".

And yet plenty of other people say the opposite that they're too harsh and ban people (usually trolls) too often, they really can't win on here can they

From my experience, they've dealt with anything I've reported usually, it may have just been a while before anyone saw those reports in the example you cited.

Support Team or Community Team, dealing with spammers is the same - we hate them as much as you guys. Unfortunately we have had an influx recently as you've noticed and we have been working together to keep it off the site, but some will break through.

We are putting into place new tech 'stuff' to try and stop the biggest offenders. For obvious reasons I can't go into what those are on the public forums

We recently switched over to doing the bulk of moderation inside TSR by our full time Community Team. The Support Team (previously called mods) did a fab job and I don't think the generalisations from a small number of disgruntled members truly reflected the incredibly balanced moderation that they did

Is there really no way to IP ban trolls? For example, Quantum Suicide is an extremely well-known troll in religion who keeps getting permabanned and must have literally hundreds of accounts by now. Surely the mods can IP ban him? I know there are ways to get round IP bans, but they can be difficult and tiresome, so that should fend them off at least for a while, if not permanently.

Yh, but once they IP ban his phone, laptop and possibly home computer he's going to have trouble coming back.

I guess so, but there are legal ways around it, some built by the government to help dissidents in other countries criticise the regime without being detected and imprisoned.

Who is Quantum Suicide anyway? Is he your local Press TV representative who keeps popping up to talk about Jewish conspiracies?

Eh? But a random student is unlikely to know hacking IP evading techniques and once all their main devices are banned it will most likely be a difficult process returning, which should hopefully dissuade them and cause them to give up in the long term.

No, he doesn't go on about jewish conspiracies, he trolls as a muslim, then as an anti-muslim.

No there really isn't. It's trivially easy to change your IP.
