Aching armits- really achy and tender- should I be worried?

Anonymous in case this is really silly. :redface:

But sometimes my armpits are really achy and sometimes quite tender too- like now, in fact. I'm 18 and have a larger chance of breast cancer being hereditory/genetic for me. However, I have felt no lumps apart from my ribs! :redface:

Am I worrying about nothing? Or should I get it checked out?

Your armpits can feel like this if you are dealing with an infection - similar to the glands in your neck becoming enlarged with a throat infection. It is unusual - although not impossible - for breast cancer to cause any 'symptoms' like pain, achiness, etc. until very advanced. So you are probably worrying needlessly. However, it will do no harm to have an examination by a doctor, just to put your mind at rest. Mention your fears about your genetic/hereditary risk. At 18, again although not impossible, breast cancer is very unlikely. There is nothing silly at all about being concerned - see the doctor, and then relax.

Thanks. I have been ill recently but my throat is Ok now, not my ears. But sometimes it has happened without infection. :s:

It could be due to hormones, similar to getting achey or tender breasts?
