Stoner rock

Anyone else love this stuff? QoTSA, Kyuss, Electric Wizard, Red Fang?

For those who don't know, stoner rock is basically a mix of psychedelic rock, electric blues, and metal. Check out some examples down here, among the devils.

This thread was made for me.
Out of every Kyuss song you chose Writhe? :teehee:
Don't get me wrong, it's a great song... but comeondude, Welcome to Sky Valley  Although to be honest I couldn't choose between Sky Valley and Blues For The Red Sun, they're both balla albums.

I wrote a reply to this and then hit back by accident. Much sadness. Now I have to find the videos all over again :sigh:

Garcia love:

Saw these guys live a while back and they played mostly Kyuss songs :awesome: It's basically Kyuss with a new guitarist. Peace is a good album.

Seen these guys live, they were awesome.

Instrumental stoner rock. The whole EP's great.

Why write an EP filled with short instrumentals when you can have an album comprised of 2 20+ minute instrumentals? (Not technically stoner rock. Heavy psych? Iunno, but it's great)

Because everyone loves Colour Haze (seen them live too. I get about a bit :h: ).

Would kill to see these guys. Dat fuzz tho... :sogood:

Now we're reaching the border between stoner rock and stoner metal. Heavier than some stoner rock, not as heavy as Dopethrone.

Obligatory Dopethrone. Saw them live, damn near broke my neck. One of the grooviest metal bands I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. Turn it up to 11.

I could literally spam this thread with hundreds of stoner rock, stoner doom, and psych rock videos... but for the sake of the sanity of the servers, I won't.

Rabbit-y? I mean, I'm not a big fan of their music but I wouldn't describe them as rabbit-y.

Not necessarily. Bongzilla's lyrics remain very central to cannabis, but Weedeater? Despite Dixie calling the band "weed metal", surprisingly not as predominant. In fact there are quite a few stoner doom bands who seem to side skip the cannabis content completely, and are only labelled as stoner doom because of their influences and style of music.

You could even go as far to call Conan stoner doom (a band whose lyrics contain no references to it, as far as I'm aware at least), but that's quite a simplistic view of their style (IMO it's more doom with both stoner and drone influences than out and out stoner doom).

You made some damn good choices with the videos.
Thread revival.

None of these bands are particularly heavy (at least not by the standards set by Bongripper et al), but I've been off work with gastroenteritis this morning so decided to go on a bit of a binge:

Strange, ethereal-esque vocals mixed with fuzzy groovy goodness? Yes please!

I haven't listened through the whole album yet, but it's an odd one in the sense that the first track (which is very psychedelic in approach) doesn't seem to bear much resemblance to the rest of the album (during which the band sound more like Down) at all.

Another Greek band. I've always found it peculiar how a lot of the stoner rock/psychedelic bands I listen to are Greek, it's not an area of the world I would've thought that the genre would flourish in, and yet I'm ever grateful that it does. Psychedelic fuzzed-out riffs that are typical of the genre (yet somehow never get boring) interspersed with lead guitar riffs to help keep it fresh.
A lot of the riffs sound very familiar, but I can never really put my finger on where they come from. You can definitely feel the Sabbath influence.

Stoner doom with female vocals. This is the ****. Sounds like Jefferson Airplane went off the deep-end on one of their trips and decided to downtune their guitars.

New album! Haven't gotten round to listening to it yet though.

Do any of you guys like Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats? They're one of my favourite bands, I saw them supporting Black Sabbath a few years ago

Damn straight. That is one hell of a duo to see live, matched only by Buddy Guy supporting the Rolling Stones earlier this year. I'm not sure I'd call them stoner rock, more like doom? Closely related though, so gotta post a vid.

Sound reminds me of Paranoid-era Sabbath so much. Especially Hand of Doom.

Have you heard their new song Waiting For Blood? It's my favourite Uncle Acid song at the moment, I can't stop listening - I love Kevin's vocals

See the above link?

Take everything after (not including) the "=" and paste it into the following coding:

Once you've pasted the end of the link between the sets of brackets (and removed the space between the "/" and "youtube" that I had to put in because it wasn't showing the coding otherwise), it ends up looking like this:

You can do it with as many videos as you like :h:

No idea if you're still using TSR, but 1000mods have dropped a new album recently.
