I can't speak for most people but from my point of view, I'll be staying in Preston.
I'm from near Bristol originally; I'm only in my first year at the moment but Preston's easily become my home already, and I love it here, so my plan is to stay here afterwards.
I have a friend in the third year who's also planning to stay here when he finishes in June.

I'm more likely to stay in my uni city than my "home" town - not really wanting to go back to my inbred rural town  A lot will depend on jobs though.

I'm living and working in Nottingham, at the university!

I know people who have stayed at thier uni city and I know people who have come home. It often depends on where you are from initially and things like job prospects. I know of people who stayed because they were from small towns and villages and cities like Sheffield and Leeds had much more to offer in terms of jobs and lifestyle.

A lot of people move to London obviously.

Why because of the job prospects? Wouldn't the high costs associated with living in London deter people? Especially with hefty debts to pay back.

Because 46% of all new graduate vacancies are in our capital.

A lot of med students stay in their uni city, because they spend their house officer year in their teaching hospital. But loads of people move to fair old Londinium.

Graduates, like all people, follow the £££'s

Well JSA isn't so great (trust me).

Therefore logically wouldn't it be wiser to go to a uni in London and be sought after by graduate recruiters as opposed to going somewhere else and then moving to london after?

No, because the graduate recruiters visit all the universities anyway.

I'd actually like to live back home after graduating. If I get a graduate job in London, it's a fairly easy commute. Also I think I have a better chance of getting the sort of job I want near home than I do in Bristol.

To be honest, after i've graduated i've no reason to stay in england as the other half of my family live in toronto.....though i've only been there a number of times visiting about a month at a time, so i no idea how an english graduate would look like in the job market over there....something to think about for the next few years....its kinda catch 22....the education we receive in england is second to none, but generally our country is going down the pan lol

Plenty of graduate recruiters visit the universities. I think they're called job fairs.

Neither. I'm not going to be staying in Exeter (it's a lovely place but a bit out of the way) and I'm going elsewhere for my Masters course. I won't be staying there either as I'm planning to move to France asap after my Masters to live with my boyfriend. I might move back with my parents for a month or two after my Masters just to sort out the move but I wouldn't stay for any longer than that.

I'm sick of this country, can't see myself settling here - thinking of moving to New Zealand after I graduate.

Reply 19

All depends really, I want to teach so if I get a job in York then I will probably stay, otherwise I will go almost anywhere in the country to teach at a good school. If my old school had a vacancy I would go back there, but I wouldn't live in my town I would live in the next one along or 15 miles away in Canterbury.
