Will I be exempt from council tax?

I will be studying for an EngD in Scotland. This features one year of study at university and then three years training at a company. It pays a low but reasonable income.

Will I have to pay council tax during those last three years? Assume I find myself living in a pure student property.

I know PhDs in England are exempt, but does Scotland work differently? And are EngDs viewed differently?

Households where everyone’s a full-time student don’t have to pay Council Tax. If you do get a bill, you can apply for an exemption.

To count as a full-time student, your course must:

last at least 1 year
involve at least 21 hours study per week


Do you fulfil that criteria?

Your best bet is to contact the uni and ask. My understanding is that if you're a student, even if you're being paid, you're exempt.
