Are there High Energy Physics Research opportunities?

Hi everyone.
I will apply for Imperial for 2016 entry and am considering between physics with theoretical physics and mathematics with mathematical physics.
My long-time goal is to do research in High Energy Physics theory, and because the graduate admission for this area is insanely competitive, research experience as an undergraduate is needed.
If there is ex- or current student at Imperial College, or anyone knows something about this, could I ask which course offers more opportunity to do research in High Energy Physics?
Also, shall I write directly to Imperial College to ask for information?
If I did get into Imperial, I wish to do part III at Cambridge, shall I apply for BSc or Msci?

Thanks in advance, all replies will be appreciated!:h:
