UCAS Track - substituting a choice??

Hey everyone,

Just logged onto track (I only applied this last week as a late applicant) and on the choices menu it says I can 'substitute a choice'.

I applied last year and did not see this option, so I assume it's a new option?

Might sound like a stupid/obvious question - but what exactly can I do? I didn't think you were able to change any of your University choices?

Help! lol

Thankyou

You can change them within two weeks of applying. I guess it makes it easier if people have made a mistake and gives an opportunity to change your mind (like I did, lol.) After the two weeks, you can only change by contacting UCAS and having special circumstances.

To my knowledge, although the link for course substitution is there, you cannot not actually change it yourself (even though UCAS say you can). I've tried it before and it didn't work (same with other people I know), I had to phone myself for the substitution to be made. After 14 days of your application being processed, the link for substitution will no long be clickable.

So yeah, you can change your course/uni within 14 days of your application being processed by phoning UCAS up

It worked just fine when I did it.

Were you actually able to change it, because I was able to change the course/uni, but when I clicked submit it didn't process.

Yup, I substited one of my choices for UCL a day or two before the 14-day deadline and it went through fine, the new choice showed up straight away with my others and a few days later I got the letter through from UCAS with the new details.

I sent my application off in december and due to health reasons i have tried to change a conditional offer at a univeristy from bio/education to early childhood studies. I thought it would be possible because i rang up the univerisity and they asked me to email them with the details, but i rang up again today and the women at the other campus said that it was unlikely i could do that. I am confused now. Should i get someone from the careers service to ring them up and check if it is possible?

I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Have you emailed your details like the first person said? If the courses are similar then it is quite possible, but it's totally up to the university whether to allow it or not.

As long as it's within 14 days of the date on your welcome letter, you can change any of your choices, but you can't change any other information, eg qualifications or personal statement.

Laaibah: Email your details if you haven't already, but if they still say it's unlikely, mention your health problems because they might be more sympathetic if they know you have a reason other than just changing your mind.

I emailed the department that i had my conditional offer from and included all the details that they told me to. I then contacted the department at the campus i want to go to, that offers the course that i want to change to and they said they will look out for my application that should be passed onto them. I called them again to see if they had recieved it and they took my details again and said leave it to them. I then contacted the office at the other campus where it is offered and the women there said that it will be unlikely that it will be offered.

So now i am just confused and fed up of ringing around. I am going to ask careers to contact the uni on wednesday and find out for certain if i can change. I kinda need to know as soon as possible because i might have to go through extra or clearing or even withdraw my whole application and apply forr 2008.

Anyway, thanks for all the advice, its just giving me a headache now.
