Ingrown hair

Hi,
I posted a few weeks ago about an ingrown hair that I'd gotten. I went to my doctor and she gave me penicillin which I finish taking tomorrow. When I first started taking it, I wasn't excercising and was wearing loose jeans. It started to go down instantly, but it hasn't disappeared yet and I wonder if the penicillin is even working now. I've worn tighter jeans occasionally and I was going on the excercise bike so could that be irritating it? I've stopped the bike now and am doing my other forms of excercise, such as push ups and sit ups.

Should I get another appointment with my doctor or wait and see if it goes down on it's own? I thought that it should've disappeared by the time the antibiotics had finished.

I'm also staying with my boyfriend later this week for a few days. Is sex a bad idea? I don't want it to burst or anything.

Definitely go back to your Dr's, they'll be able to tell you if you need another course of pencillin.

As for sex, I guess it all depends on the positions you use, but again, ask your doctor.

Thanks

I was just in the bath and noticed it had a scab like thing on it so maybe it is getting better. I'll ring up in the morning. Getting scared again...

Wow, I didn't realise ingrown hairs were this serious. I had one a while back but just bit the bullet and pulled it out with tweezers. Are there different kinds? Is that why you had to get penicillin on prescription?

I'd probably make it worse if I did that, so if it comes to that then I'll let them do it.

I'm not sure but there might be. She just told me it'd go away on it's own, and when I said I'd had it for a while she gave me the penicillin.

It wasn't fun to do it; I made it worse to start off with, but on the second attempt (once it had healed...eeugh) I managed. Perseverance, although there must be a better way of doing it. I was just annoyed yet very determined. I wonder what the penicillin does?

Why would it burst btw? Is the skin swollen around where the hair is?

I don't know exactly how the penicillin gets rid of it, but I read on the leaflet that it gets rid of bacterial infections. It's made the lump smaller anyway. I'll ask my Drama teacher tomorrow cos she's had about 4 ingrown hairs, and if not I'll request to get it lasered off, though that might have to wait another week.

Wondered with the friction it might. Would probably just aggravate it.

I think I must have the wrong definition of ingrown hair in my mind... to me it's just a red swollen bump that goes away if you pluck out the hair :s-smilie:

That's the main method I think, but I don't understand how you pull a hair out that's growing inside. A lot of people I've known have gotten antibitoics though.

I think it might be going on it's own now. My Drama teacher says it must be because it's got a sort of scab on it. If not I'll go back.

I thought ingrown hairs just went back into the skin after emerging from the pore? There should be a small exposed section..

What I was told before was that there is a purple part which is where the hair is.

My Mum and I tried looking it up in various health guides we have. It could be a sebacious cyst or something else. I can't remember what it's called but it's similar to when men shave.
Mine turn into almost whiteheads that I just squeeze and then the hair tends to come out..with a bit of help with the tweezers...if it scabs over I pull the scab off and get the hair that way..works just the same...

I'll see how it goes. Ideally I'd do that but I'm accident prone...so very tempted though.
Well if ends up looking like a spot squeeze it  and ahve a pair of tweezers on hand to grab the hair....I had a huuuuge one once...was under my arm just kept growing and growing and would not form a spot..soi just dug it out..god it was painful....but better than the fricking great red bump under my arm! When I got it out it was about an inch long >.<

I had it for about 4 months...I noticed it and thought ah well itll spottify itself soon..and no spot...so I just got fed up..I was a bit stressed and it was hurting for some reason :s-smilie: Ive had 2 other ingrown hair in the same spot recently though :hmpf: but theym gone now =D so Im hoping itll go back to normal skin soon :p:

I'm not sure how long I've had this, maybe as early back as November or Dece, ber, but maybe January. It's only recently it flared up and then it went down with penicillin. I really want normal skin.
A woman at my old work had an ingrown hair and it ended up with her being in hospital for 4 weeks.

They do vary in severity, I'd really go to the doctor, just incase you end up like the woman from work.

Okay now I'm scared. I may give her a ring tomorrow, or I'll have to wait until I come back from my boyfriend's next week.
