No why would you be guaranteed the halls you want? Everyone still has to apply for accomadation seperately so I assume just like my uni it comes on a first come-first serve basis meaning get your forms in quick!

depends on the uni. (i'm gonna use sheffield as an exempla coz i understand their process)

Sheffield you can apply for accom now and then they process them from march and start allocating from July after results with the bulk off allocations obv being after alevels have come out. So with you being UnCon, you'd be allocated straight away because you have fulfilled the entry reqs, so chances are you'd get your first choice.

Some other start allocation as soon as they receive your application that said many of those unis don't lets you apply until may/june time, so it depends on the uni mostly.

If your talking about Cardiff, i believe they operate in quite a similar way to Sheff.
I don't think you'd be guaranteed your first choice, but you're probably more likely to get it as long as you send the form in early.
You'll generally be guaranteed something in halls if they're your firm choice, but I highly doubt you'll get priority accommodation from having an unconditional offer.

Most of the time it does depend on how quickly you get your form in but some uni's Unconditional people do get first allocation eg Sussex (apparently).
But does depend on the uni.

No they don't, forms get sent out August time and it depends on how quick you are sending your form back. Although I sent it back the day after it was sent and got my first place, I had an unconditional as well.

ARen't you better off posting this in the University forum?

Like a few have said, each Uni is different. For example, Warwick don't allocate until they know who's coming, and they try to match up people with similar tolerances noisewise and so on - first come first served may well equal bunch of blockmates who don't get on.

I could have just posted that that's what happens, the implication then being that that's what happens everywhere, but as you haven't applied to Warwick it would actually be irrelevant for you. People are always well meaning here:wink: , but unfortunately the assumption that what happens at their Uni, or in their department, is the same as everywhere is a misguided one.

I think Exeter do a combination of that. They start allocating as soon as they start receiving forms, but there's also a space to write about your hobbies/interests, so they look at that as well to try and match people up.

At Imperial they wait to find out who's coming and then they begin allocation. You don't even choose which halls you get (otherwise EVERYONE would chose one particular halls over the rest) but you do get to specify preferences.

Accommodation varies from Uni to Uni. Imperial will give accommodation to every first year student - even if Imperial was that person's insurance and they don't tend to give priority to people who send in their form earlier than others. I know of one girl who had Imperial as her insurance and yet she got the most sought after halls that Imperial offers.

Your best bet is to ask around in the individual uni's forum!

You have to write another personal statement for Bristol accommodation. Meh.

haha actually?

All my life i have aspired to self catered accommodation.... haha i have done voluntary courses in how to run a self catering household. I would be good in the kitchen becuase i have read lots of cooking books!

haha
Ferrari
The order of priority of accommodation:

Unconditional
Conditional Firm (over achieved the grades needed)
Conditional Firm (met the offer)
Conditional Insurance (over achieved the grades needed)
Conditional Insurance (met the offer)
Clearing.

I have to also disagree with you on that, there is no set rule to accommodation allocation. It depends on the university, so the list you put above does not apply to all universities.

Quite ironic that your profile states that you study in the 'real world' when most of your time is spent on the internet, 16+ posts a day clearly shows you haven't got anything better to do. Go outside and get some fresh air.

Would be very sad if you did email Glasgow, Newcastle or UEA, it'll just prove me right that you haven't got anything better to do in your life.

Dude, she WORKS at a university. She is probably on the comp at work...

And don't be mean to PQ

Ferrari, if you think everything about TSR is so 'sad', why are you here? Why don't you take your own advice and 'get some fresh air' instead of being sad enough to waste your time insulting people who actually know what they're talking about and are actually helpful, unlike some people I could mention?
