Cross trainers

What do people think to the cross trainers at gyms? Personally i really like them and find them better than running (it tends to hurt my knees). The calorie thing on the machines says i burn of similar amounts in the same time and both of them raise my heartrate to about the same level i think but i always feel like ive worked a lot harder when ive been running.

Is any one better for losing weight/toning than the other? I cant really tell as i use them both, so any results im seeing are a combined result!

I know the cross trainer is good for toning bum and thigh muscles and ive been told that running can help tone tummys? Not sure how though!

i like cross trainers, and i find them easier than treadmills. i wouldnt say the calorie counters and heart rate moniters on the machines are all that accurate though.

I always find the treadmill burns more calories than the cross trainer when using for the same amount of time (according to the counters on the machines anyway..). Also the treadmill forces you to put in a consistent level of effort, which the cross trainer doesn't.
I really like the cross trainer, it's one of my favourite machines. I find it easier than the treadmill too, yet, interestingly, my mum is the exact opposite.

Due to my feet needing realigning I can't use a treadmill to run on, if I want to run I have to use the cross trainer because my feet don't have to move and therefore less likely to fall, on the treadmill I can loose my balance I have to concentrate too much when running to ensure I don't fall, it's all my feet's fault, until I can get surgery on them I won't be able to run on a treadmill, but who needs a treadmill cross trainers are more fun, anyone gone backwards with one?
Yeh, I've done backwards on the cross trainer, it works different muscles i believe.
The cross trainer is my favourite thing to use at the gym!
I am probably gonna leave the rower and bike and use the cross trainer as its the most enjoyable

the treadmill can get your heart rate up qicker and its porbably easier to do high intensity training on it (going fast/slow/fast) but i will prob just use the cross trainer from now on.

going backwards on a cross trainer uses ur bum muscles more which is good!

I dont like the bike at all, and i find it doesnt get my heart rate up half as much as crosstrainer and treadmill

Using the rowing machine really hurts my back, im probably doing it wring but my mum has the same problem and she gets bad backs anyway so im steering clear.

Aww I wanna have a go on a cross trainer, but without going to the gym!
The cross-trainer's my favourite machine to use, just a shame they don't have one at my uni gym! :frown: I suppose it makes me appreciate my home gym more when I'm home...
I really like the cross trainer, although I always felt like I wasn't working as hard on it like it was a copout somehow as it wasn't as exhausting as the treadmill.

Research indicates that the crosstrainer can work you hard but it doesnt feel as hard - which is good.

I prefer the cross trainer, BUT the treadmill can push you a little further for the last few %'s of your heart rate.

I love the cross trainer! So much more fun than the treadmill. I like doing the preset aerobics routines on there, where you go forwards and backwards and at different speeds - I can really feel it afterwards though!

I do about 40 mins of biking at level 6 out of 12 and burn about 300 calories. Does biking burn as much fat as using a crosstrainer/treadmill?

i hate the cross trainer. it's my least favourite of all the gym machines, lol complete opposite to what most of you have said so far...

it's all about the step machine
Not personally a fan of the cross trainer, i'm all out of sync when using it. I use the treadmill.
hi i totally agree i love the cross trainer. i've got flat feet so find it hard to run on the treadmill, but the cross trainer gives the low impact cardio workout that i need
