OK, I'm sure it's been done many times before, but who's your favourite author and why?

What's your favourite book by them?

Mine is Philip K ****. His best book imo is Do android's dream of electric sheep.

Thomas Hardy, his words feel like they have been written on silk.

Favorite author? hard to say, as I have not read many novels and authors in my life yet. But at the moment I tend to Dürrenmatt and Marquez. Why? Dürrenmatt because of nice writing in crime novels which have a surprise turn. Marquez because of his writing of characters, perspectives, and the atmosphere of a storyline in particular.

But I also like Kishon's funny short stories.

Why? Because he's a modern comic fantasy genius.

Vladimir Nabokov
Thomas Hardy
Sarah Hall

All three writers have a wonderful way with words; it almost makes me want to give up my dreams of writing a book because I know I can never reach their heights.
My favourite books by the three authors:

Nabokov - Lolita (of course!) but I am just about to start reading Ada or Ardour so perhaps this will change.
Thomas Hardy - Far from the Madding Crowd. It's the first novel I've read by him, and although it felt like a bit of a chore at the beginning, his rich descriptions just kept me hooked.
Sarah Hall - The Electric Michelangelo. I really wish Hall was more well-known; she easily tops my list of favourite authors, and her writing reminds me so much of Hardy. For anyone who is a fan of Hardy and is on the lookout for a new read, I would seriously recommend giving Hall a go. I believe she is one of the top authors of our times.
