Question

Hello. Please I'm sorta stuck!
I know the hydrogen emission spectrum contains transitions from up to n=4 to n=2, but I'm also reasonably sure that the hydrogen atoms has only 1 energy level (n=1).
What then, is the relationship between the transitions in the spectrum and electron transitions in real life? What does, say, an electron moving from n=4 to n=2(Balmer Series) represent in the hydrogen atoms?
Thanks in advance for your help!!!
