KCL full or UCL Rejects?

Nothing to do with me, but I wouldn't touch KCL with a bargepole - they don't bother even to write a proper letter to reject a perfectly wonderful candidate. The buildings are horrible, the people are unfriendly. I strongly suggest anyone who has an offer from somewhere else should take that instead.
If everyone did it, that'd teach 'em to be so up themselves.
Bitter- moi? Ah, oui. C'est vrai.

I think it's a bit silly to say that all the staff and students at any university are unfriendly. It's a bit like saying "The people at KCL like brussel sprouts".

i've been to open days for both, i'm a law applicant, and well...
both open days, the current students mentioned the slight rivalry, mostly over jeremy betham's head.
it is down to preference i suppose.
both are relatively near to each other, with lse in between.
however, king's is much more city centred, whereas ucl is much quieter and campus like... although the campuses of king's are all within short walking distances.

Reputation wise i thought that UCL was better for Law? although it has to be said KCL is pretty good for law. with regards to the actual topic of the thread it is true, even the name :P

I heard that the integration in King's is really bad. Lyk if your asian, you'll only hang round with asians, and if your black, white, etc...
I'm considering accepting their offer but I'm just not sure.

EDIT: what i said might be offensive:sleep:

Sasuke!
UCL has like like very few black people, i think there will be more blacks at KCL cos the standards are lower!

Oh dear...this looks very wrong to me. I'm sure it must be a joke. Which fell flat. (Cringe).

No its seems a reasonable comment to make. I'm black myself and am fully aware that blacks (especially boys) underperform when it comes to exams and such. Therefore, since the average entry standards of UCL are higher than those of KCL, it is reasonable to say that there will be more blacks at KCL than at UCL.
I got a place for Information Technology Management for Business at UCL and Business Management at KCL. UCL's a better university overall, but KCL beats UCL (given the two courses i've listed). It really depends what you're studying. Im 50:50 on UCL vs. KCL at the mo. The ITMB (UCL) course isn't very prestige, whereas Business Management (KCL) has a 28:1 applicant:tongue:lacement ratio.. therefore its highly respected.

Your thoughts?

philosophy UCL or Kings????? i cant decide. there nothing in it really is there?

I know of a fair few. I also know of a fair few who got into both and chose KCL.

I myself am neither, since I did not apply to UCL.

UCL is among the world's top 25 unis, whereas King's is somewhere between top 75 and 85

Actually KCL is in the world top 25 as well. Not that league tables mean an awful lot.

J'en ai marre
UCL don't do music, and some league tables put KCL above Oxbridge for music.

Certainly! One of my friends turned down an Oxford offer to do Music at KCL, it's top notch.

That's something that helped me pick KCL actually - I have a lot of respect for Music, I love it so much, so even though it's not my degree subject, a uni which has an excellent music department is one that has its cultural priorities straight.

So UCL doesn't do it at all? How lifeless.

And btw... if UCL care about what Vogue thinks they might also care that NME voted KCL their favourite...

how about saying UCL is where the Oxbridge rejects are (most definitely what i hear frequently) and KCL is where the more independant choose to study because they realise the benefits of being there, not the stupid tables and lables?
oohh...
kates:)

Sounds about right, yup.

Obviously the rivalry between the institutions is prominent, but regardless of UCL making out its academic superiority every time there's a bit of a scuffle, on a personal level I find that UCL only just skims KCL in terms of reputation. On a knife's edge, as it were. This is coming from someone who's a KCL finalist. However, for my subject (history) I firmly believe that KCL's better than UCL academically, which is the thing that counts for me.

My cousin went to UCL and told me that she preferred going to KCL for her social events. Which was amusing.

Cool, you do History at KCL! Got an interview there soon for it!
In terms of History, KCL definitely trumps UCL
I don't actually know what I'll do if I get both offers. I have a KCL offer and I *really* like it, but if I were to get a UCL offer I'd have to consider the fact that I like their English course better, but I don't like the university as a whole better. HMPH. Hopefully I'll get rejected from UCL and won't have to decide.
Reply 77
Why do you like their English course better? Just curious.

I turned down an offer from UCL for Kings, I really liked UCL but KCL just seemed more friendly and more right for me, plus I preferred the location (UCL may be near the British Museum etc etc... but realistically how many times am I actually going to go there?) and I'm having the time of my life.

oh and Kings IS in the top 25 world universities!

Way to go, KCL! But UCL is already in world's top 9 uni.
