Some hairdessers take student discount on certain days of the week... apart from that, I'm not really sure.

cut it yourself :p:
Me and my mum used to go to the same hairdressers but I couldnt afford their prices so I went on a Tuesday when they had the student/trainee hairdresser on. She was very good but not a 'professional' so I got a good hair cut for half the price.

In Liverpool you can go to Supercuts in the St John's centre. They'll do a simple cut for £11 but no layers or anything. I go there since all i ever want doing is a teeny bit taken off the bottom all round, if i wanted a new style i would go somewhere better though.

Also, if you can bear it have a wet cut rather than wash, cut and blowdry. You'll still have it washed but will probably save quite a lot through skipping the blowdry. Then just go home and do it yourself! Dry cuts are also a lot cheaper.

If you go to a college where they're training people to be hairdresses I think it's much cheaper. I'm not sure if there's anything like that in Liverpool though.

Edit: I just re-read that and realised that it could be read wrongly. You don't have to be a member of the college - anyone can go and get their hair cut cheaply.
Apparently the UNiversity of Liverpool's union has a hairdressers' in it - anybody used it, and what are the prices like?

NONONO don't go to the guild one!! I went there once and ended up with one bit of hair randomly much shorter, and apparently the mens bit they're always catching you in the clippers (or whatever those things are they use on boys!!)

yup, just do it yourself.

Maybe get a sibling to cut it for you...the question is would you trust them?

I've cut my brother's hair on two occasions and both times, it has turned out really well...mind you, it did take over an hour. It's no wonder some hairdressers charge so much!
Apparently it's free at tony and guy if you're a model for their trainees, she got it done last week! I thought you mght have to pay something, but she said she didn't!

LOL! No, my brother and I tend to avoid each other - but I am thinking of cutting my fringe (I just want a tiny bit in the centre of my forhead, and for it not to be so long). How to do it properly?

Would they do students from JMU/Hope,. or just UoL students? Also, what kind of cutting do they do (Just lopping off lengths, layers or what?)

Personally, i'd advise not to cut your own fringe. The chance of stuffing it is sadly quite high.

But if you're brave enough, don't wet your hair before cutting it (you may not like the way it sits when it's dry)

The fringe you described sound kinda weird...no offense! :p:

Yeah, if you want some new split ends to go with your new do.

As others have suggested, go to salons which have student specials, or when they want to use the trainees to cut your hair. In most places like this, according to friends, the supervisors stand over them and so they won't mess it up. And its very very cheap.
I should really start doing this, my haircut costs £36.

Is it true that you can do a ponytail on top of your head and then cut straight across to get layers???
