RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

You have probably bruised it, or suffered a minor sprain, and the above recipe will reduce swelling. You may also wish to consider taking Ibuprofen to reduce inflammation.

Sounds daft but do you bite your finger nails?

I used to, and got this all the time, until last year it got infected.

Which part of the middle finger is hurting? The whole finger or near one of the joints? Did you bang the finger or bend it? Did you carry a heavy shopping bag?

It's not so much a hurt. Just throbing really badly !!

Bit of puss has come out - so obviously is infected !! (somehow  )

Put on some antiseptic cream and cover it with a plaster. Consider wrapping it tight (not too tight of course!) to reduce blood flow and thus swelling.

Will do. Thanks for your help

Should i go to chemist / Doctor tomorrow ? Or is that over the top ?

You should go to the chemist. They will be able to check that the infection is under control, and advise whether or not you need to see a doctor.

I get this quite often. Just to the side of my finger nail becomes swollen and really hot and I can feel it throbing. It is really bad for a couple of days - sometimes the pain is so bad I can't get to sleep for it. Then some gunk comes out and it goes away again!

Ingrown nail? Biting your nails? Sticking your fingers in places they shouldn't be?

I don't have / haven't done,any of those things.

Don't know how it got infected  But it really hurts & more puss is coming out

Sorry I meant to say sometimes a little bit of puss will come out then a little bit more maybe 24 hours later then it gets better. I do bite my nails though so that's what probably causes mine!

Mum said it's a good thing - that Puss is coming out  Means that the poison is being released !

Just lifted up a banana with that hand. Finger throbbed & hurt big time :frown:

Hmm... pus is only good as long as you are sure to clean and cover up the wound very quickly. If the infection is allowed to get worse, you may end up with a more serious problem (antibiotics etc.)

What do i cover it with ? Surely it won't stick because of the Pus. Seems to be lots of pus coming out

Clean out the pus under a tap, and dry your finger. Then apply a small amount of antiseptic cream (e.g. Savlon) and put a plaster on top. If this does not stick, try wrapping some gauze dressing around it (not too tight!) and sticking it with some tape or a safety pin. Then leave it until tomorrow; constant agitation will encourage infection.

I went to Chemist thismorning. The woman said, i need to see the doctor. To get antibiotics !!! :frown:

Off to see Doctor in 30mins. Still really badly throbing and pusing :frown:

Don't worry, it's not a big deal and will resolve itself quickly with antibiotics .
