Uni vs. UWE

I just wondered what those at Bristol Uni think of UWE and its crowd. Is there much interaction between the two?

Open day Feb 17th.

Bit of friendly banster, mostly at varisty games. No interaction, so much, as Bristol is based in the centre and UWE more around the outside j'pense.

If you judge by Facebook, UWE cares more about rivalry than Bristol

It's a bit like football rivalry.

For example, Tottenham fans absolutely hate Arsenal, because Arsenal are local and more successful. But because Arsenal fans know Arsenal are so much better than Tottenham, they merely have a patronising dislike towards Tottenham, and instead hate Man Utd and Chelsea more.

Hence, UWE tend to have a slight issue with Bristol students, whereas Bristol students aren't massively fussed, and instead prefer to laugh about how Warwick looks like a ****ing Center Parks.

In my 'crowd' it's common to laugh at Durham

Cheers guys.

In my original post, the last line was 'Do you look down on them?!' but I snipped it as it seemed ignorant and judgemental.

Always go with your instincts!

we're not all like it, there's always a bit of banter but most of my housemates are at UWE and they're great. Perhaps it's due in part to the increased upper class demographic of students in Bristol who are used to looking down on people :P

Heh, I was only kidding. I'd choose mild snobbery over rampant chavvery (Croydon + Leeds) any day.

At least two my my mates at Bristol are moving to do second degrees at UWE. Bristol doesn't do law conversion, y'see, and they want to stay in the city.

I have a few friends at UWE who seem to really not like Bristol... Whereas everyone I know at Bristol love it.

Just a query why Durham??? please e-mail back not post

Perhaps its because its where the northern Oxford rejects go, and the southern ones think they're better

Excuse me we don't all go to Durham thank you very much!! haha...
Reply 12
There was a saying that 'Cambridge rejects go to Durham, Oxford rejects go to Bristol' - so that's why
Reply 13
Lmao ok then, that would explain it!

That would make sense though. Cam is a smaller homelier-ish city than Oxford, and Durham is defo smaller and that than Bristol..

Hahaha...
Nice generalisation! :p:

No prizes for guessing where I was rejected?
Nothing wrong with a bit of friendly rivalry; although I was talking about this with friends the other day for some weird reason, and someone said that the worst thing was people saying they were going to 'Bristol' when they meant UWE, or 'Oxford' when they really meant 'Oxford Brookes' etc...

Yeah, there's a saying/joke I've heard a few times- "Half of UWE students say they go to Uni at Bristol...no-one from Bristol say they go to Uni at UWE..."

a lot of my friends are at UWE cos my bf is at UWE. TBH my main concearn is that they might think i look down on them when i don't AT ALL. i've met a lot of really cool people who go to uwe, most of them are more on my wavelength than my bristol buddies (as much as i love them)
i guess the UWE people tend to be a bit madder than the UoB ones, and tend to go to the electro/d&b/tehcno/house/psytrance nights/free parties/raves, whereas UoB people are more likely to be found at indie/r&b/commercial nights like ramshackle, propaganda, stutter etc
in my experience
and i guess the madder people appeal to me more, lol. plus atm i;m really into the psytrance/electro/house and free party scene

^^ Haha I would like to be but unfortunately none of my UofB mates are really into that **** so I wouldn't know where to start....

andy you should come along with me sometime

also at free parties if you have a way of getting there you'll make friends there easily. PM me for the telephone number if u want it

i'm so so glad i have friends who ARE into that kind of scene cos my life would be sooooooooo much boringer without it. it was weird at the end of last yr tho when id be coming home late morning, looking like trash and my flatmates were just getting up, distanced me from them a bit...

Most of my flatmates are into places like Syndicate and when it was on *shudders* wedgies... So I'm rather struggling atm. Hoping to get more into the proper nights next year though!
