Why is it so hard to get into Accounting & Finance?

Title says it all.

There has been 1713 applicants to only 134 first year students in 2013: that is only 7% acceptance rate!*

In another place (I lost it though), it was at 8%. Either way, it is very low. To compare, PPE at Oxford has double that (15%).

Is there a reason for this? Why is it so hard to get into it?

Because it's one of the best, if not the best, accounting & finance course in the UK?

I kind of assumed it was just because they didn't have enough spaces on the course for more people, not because it was difficult? That's interesting, though.

Both points make a lot of sense.

Oxford PPE, which is apparently the most 'prestigious' course out there has double the rate. Do all other 'best' courses have such a low rate?
